Which is the best hotel on the Las Vegas strip to be in the midst of everything?

We have never been to Vegas, but are planning a trip in August. We want to stay on the strip so that we can walk to most everything without having to rent a car. I have been checking out Circus Circus, MGM Grand, Excalibur, Golden Nugget, Tropicana, Harrah's and Monte Carlo. We would like the hotel to have some activities and restaurants built in also. Please help.....all of the hotels look so nice it is hard to choose!

There are THREE main corners

CORNER 1 - NYNY next to Monte Carlo, across street/bridge to MGM Grand, across street/bridge Tropicana, across street/bridge to Excalibur next to Luxor next to Mandalay Bay (all three joined by free tran)

CORNER 2 - Wynn Las Vegas, across street/bridge to Palazzo joined to Venetian, across bridge to Mirage and Treasure Island. Caesars Palace is a short walk from Mirage

CORNER 3 - Caesars Palace, across street/bridge to Bellagio, across street/bridge to Ballys, across street/bridge to Bills next to Flamingo

Me I would take the corner one casino and either stay at Luxor or NYNY. But the Venetian is fantastic

BTW Golden Nurget is Downtown
BTW Circus Circus is near Corner 4 which is Sahara Hotel and across the street from CC is Riveria

Check out www.lasvegasnow.com for links to make up your mind

Mandalay bay is the best. It is on the end but you can get around on the tram or bus easy!

Out of the hotels you're looking at I would stay at the MGM Grand. Not only is it a great and fun hotel It is easy to get over to New York New York, the Luxor, Excalibur, and even Mandalay Bay isn't too far off. There is also a monorail station there that make it easy to get to other parts of the strip.

Have fun!!!!

Of the ones you mentioned I would pick the Monte Carlo, the pool is nice and it has a really good steakhouse. It's towards the middle of the strip and it is nicer than the Tropicana. The Golden Nugget is nice, but it is in the downtown area and away from the Strip. Check out http://vegas.com for what to do while you are there. Have fun!

The Golden Nugget is the nicest hotel downtown, but it is not on the strip. The Circus Circus is good for kids, but is at the run down end of the strip and is not as nice as the other places on your list. The others that you note are all in the middle of the activity you are seeking. All are nice places with the MGM Grand and the Monte Carlo the nicest of those listed, though I would give the MGM the edge in activities, and clubs. Next would be Harrah's, then Excalibur and Tropicana. If you are going with kids, Excalibur has arcades and a "Medieval Times" type of dinner show.

You are safe with all that you mentioned. I have stayed at MGM and The Venetian. Both are great hotels. We also went in the New York, Balley's, Wynn, Ceasars. The way the hotels are set up, you will never have to leave. Have fun

Caesar's Palace is really centrally located, has tons of shopping and restaurants. A great place for a first timer to Vegas.

Of your choices, Monte Carlo or Harrah's are the best hotels and are in the best spot for walking (I like the Monte Carlo). All hotels have plenty of activities and eateries. The only one's you have listed that will not work are Circus, Circus and the Golden Nugget. Cirucus is on the strip but way north and not really walking distance from the heart of the strip. The Golden Nugget is downtown, nowhere near the strip.

Be advised, there is a free tramway that connects Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay bay and another that connect Treasure Island and the Mirage. There is a "trolley" service on the strip that are really busses dressed as trolleys that can transport you to all of the strip hotels. It is slow but cheap. There is also a monorail that runs behind the hotels on the east side of the strip. It is very fast but costs more.

First - and you already know it - Golden Nugget is not on the Strip (and actually, it is the only real Las Vegas hotel of all you have mentioned! :)). From others I would vote for Monte Carlo (location) or MGM (all the rest). Circus Circus is perfect if you're taking kids with you, but otherwise - I doubt. Besides, it is located in the northern part of the Strip, you will have to walk really much to get to the other end, say, to Mandalay Bay or Luxor. Excalibur is nice if you like the theme of medieval Britain: knights, castles, tournaments, etc. Perfect for kids. And for you? :)

As for car rent... Actually, it should be the least your concern. There are buses (The Deuce - lots of stops along the Strip), trolleybuses, shuttles and trams, not to mention legendary monorail. You can take a tram and move between Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excalibur, as well as between The Mirage and Treasure Island absolutely free.

To save even more, I would also advice free magazines What's On and Vegas2Go which you can find in any hotel or mall. There are lots of coupons in them, including ones for monorail unlimited use.

Good luck and have fun! :)

I will vote for Monte Carlo. Very nice hotel, great location. They are currently running a special till June for $68 /night but keep an eye out for Monte Carlo August specials. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/special.html
