That is a difficult choice to make. I'm from the North (Pennsylvania booooooo!). I went to college in Greenville, SC. and shared an apartment with my brother in Travelers Rest, SC. I just simply like the South. I want to move back to the South.
No offense to SC, but I believe NC is more beautiful. The drive on I-85 into Greenville, SC is boring. Nothing is that spectacular on that stretch of road other than a peach shaped water tower in Gaffney. Greenville, SC has way too much crime, considering it's the "buckle" of the Bible Belt. Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, PA are safer places to live and raise a family.
In NC, I-40 is in bad shape. We have some better highways in PA. I would say SC has the better roads, but NC's roads are more scenic. I love the drive on Rt 321 between Gastonia and Hickory. I also like the drive from Asheville up I-26 into Tennessee.
Industry in much stronger in SC and NC compared to PA. I know Western NC and upstate SC are growing rapidly. I would be proud to live and work in both of these states.
With all this said, I would choose NC. I love the Asheville area. The mountains are amazing, the people are just as nice as the SC people, and there are plenty of jobs. The South is God's country!
