If it is a citizenship question, you've already failed based just on how you asked the question.
Cities do not have governors (note the correct American spelling, BTW.) Only states have governors.
The Governor of NY State is about to change. The previous governor of NY State just resigned on Wednesday (I won't go into why right now. ) His name is Eliot Spitzer. He remains governor officially till tomorrow. A new governor will be sworn in tomorrow. The new governor's name is David Paterson. He is currently the Lieutenant governor.
That all has to do with the "State" of New York.
Now for the "City" of New York:
New York City does not have a governor. All cities have mayors. The current mayor of New York City is Michael Bloomberg.
New York is harder because it is both the name of the state we live in AND the name of that state's largest city. This is not true in every state (in fact there is only one other state I think that's true of - Kansas.)
This makes it hard for newcomers to the U.S. and schoolchildren everywhere to understand.
I hope I've explained it in a clear way.

A governor runs the entire state, not the city. The mayor runs the city, not the state. The Mayor of NYC is Bloomberg and the Gov of the STATE of New York as of today is still Spizer, but will be replaced tomorrow by Patterson. |
