I live in the Southwest part of Houston, I have been living in Houston since 1983 I went to school here, graduated at R.E.Lee in 1986, I met my husband here, I have 2 teenage boys who were born here.
As far as sports are concerned here in Houston the teams are OK, the Rockets just got a new head coach, didn't make it past the first part of the finals, the Astros are on a losing streak, but they always bounce back, the Texans have gotten alot better than when first started, they got a new quarterback so well see what happens this season, the Dynamo is new to Houston they won the soccer championship, the Aeros[hockey] have done a good job,the Comets wnba have just started their season so hopefully they will do a good job.
You have a Historical district, museum district, the downtown aquarium, galleria, the woodlands,Katey mills mall, and Houston has the biggest and the largest Rodeo anywhere.Sure the traffic sucks but that's everywhere you go.

Houston is a mixed heritage kind of place you have people from every where not just USA but many cultures settle here from all over the world. Its not just your cow poke town any more some say its the new Vegas just a little more southern

12 years to long. I hate it but what can I do. I met my current husband here and with his business doing so well he is not about to leave anytime soon.
This city is horrible. People are rude and they drive like there is no tomorrow There are many drivers that will shoot at you and then ask questions later and never give it a thought as to what they did was worse then what you might have done to them accidently but were never given the chance to say "I'm Sorry" Traffic is always a nightmare no matter what freeway you drive on.
White is definitely the minority but the blacks and hispanic don't see it that way and will get the job before the white even if the white man is more qualified. I think there are more illegals living here then white people and the hospitals emegency rooms are always packed with them wanting free care and that makes it ruff on us that work hard and have insurance but still have to wait 7 hours to get stiches or set a broken leg after an accident
The humidity sucks, the red ants thrive on human flesh and oh those darn huge tree roaches freak me out.
The Astros are really bad this year and the Texans were even worse. The Rockets at least made the playoffs. Soccer is still fairly new to the city but give it a few years and it will bring the crowds and lets forget the hockey team all together. Most people don't even know that Houston has a hockey team.
Our mayor (Bill White) has done wonders for the city but I am sure all the good will go down the drain when he leaves office and a new mayor takes over. Sheila Jackson is more hot air then anything but the people seem to believe in her.
Half our police dept. needs to get in shape and go through training that will bring them to the way life is now not what it was like fighting crime 20 years ago. Most of them are so over weight they find it easier to shoot at the bad guys then to risk a heart attack chasing them. This statement is meant for at least 25% of our guys on the police department not all of them, but it only takes a few to make the rest look bad.
The high school drop out rate incresase's every year so, so much for no child left behind because without an education they will never catch up
We do have a pretty decent fire department and hey lets here it for the Pool man!
