You forgot the cops shooting first and asking questions later.
Actually the money is good out here, lots of jobs. There is a LOT to do here. You can snow ski in the morning and water ski in the ocean the same day. There is art, museums, theater, etc. I guess you could say big city excitement too.
BUT there is WAY too many people here (did I say WAY!). Everything you can think of doing, there is about a thousand people with the same idea. You cannot go anywhere that there are not people already there doing what you wanted to do. Millions of people on the freeways. Rudeness and violence are the common freeway conditions.
We have a Mayor that is trying to sell us out to illegal immigrants (we are called Mexifornia). The crime is about 7 times the national average. Murder, rape, robbery, and shootings are so common they don't even make the front pages of the papers. The races have polarized, there is Little Tokyo, Korea Town, South Central, Beverly Hills, Little Saigon, Wilshire area, East L.A. Baldwin Hills. All wanting the others out of their neighborhoods and to be left alone.
I have a lot of history here but as soon as I can it will be history. I'm trying to get OUT! |

About 3 million people in the immediate area. About 15 million in the greater Los Angeles area. That's a lot of votes in favor of living there.
You hear more about what's going on here than other parts of the country because Media is based out of Los Angeles.
It's also very diverse. If you're white, you're in the minority. Hispanic is the leading race there.... but, any culture you'll find plenty of your own to hang out with. Some immigrants can't say that as easily other places in the country. |

If you can live the "rich white life" and take the coast, it is pretty damned nice. The coast area is where it is at. There is not smog there and everything is more clean. |

Have you ever set foot in LA or anywhere in CA for that matter? Probably not and are just basing your stupid opinion on absurd stereotypes that are not true. It just amazes me how people like you apparently know what it's like to live somewhere they have never even been to but just feed off all the crap the media shoots out. Yes, we live like Beverly Hills 90210, Laguna Beach, minorities are beaten everyday by the LAPD, we have to wear masks b/c the smog is so bad, everyone here has fake breasts, everyone is blond, everyone surfs, ect... Why don't you try to pry open that little narrow mind of yours and actually pay a visit to the Golden State and see why people are willing to pay $$$ to live here and why we are the 7th largest economy in the world? |

Think you are being a little dramatic here... if you believe those three statements to be true..you seriously need an education.....afterall YOU wanted to visit and you did say you have been to LA a FEW times. Why did you come back if you hate it so much. |

You couldn't even pay me enough.
I've been there twice. Spent a total of 12 hours there.
Let's just say I prefer looking at grass and BLUE sky. |

I think it's just the energy you feel here, the feeling that this is where all of the Hollywood stuff and celebrities and where the movies are made. Also, the palm trees, mountains and ocean are make for some awesome scenery, even though you're stuck in traffic a lot of the time, and there's smog.
People want to visit because it's full of entertaiment and interesting things that can only be done here: like tv show tapings. |

At least you didn't insult our state by referring to it as "Cali". |

WVTalbot--You raise some important issues that we need to work diligently on...although pollution and crime have improved some lately...not enough IMHO....I am a big mass transit/Hov type supporter which helps address both the smog and traffic problems...The mayor has proposed a "subway to the sea" in the Wilshire/Santa Monica area which would be a great help....If you can think of any constructive ideas please post them....Did you ever actually live here???? Where abouts...??? |

Smog in LA isn't as bad as it is in China. I find alot of roads clogged in Seattle, and you'll see alot of anti-minority violence by the NYPD. |

I'm from there. Moved away. Visit occasionally to visit family. Traffic still sucks. Don't miss it one bit. |

And Talbot, we have to wash the streets after you leave.
If your mind were just a little more narrow, I could almost use it for floss.
I always find it interesting that some people come to LA, look at the worst parts, and pass judgement. Things a little slow where you are at? That's too bad.
And why would anyone want to visit? Paris has a list of about 100 reasons why. We spend all day helping people who do want to visit. It's a nice place to visit, even to live.
So, you can keep your angry, bitter, narrow-minded attitudes and enjoy it where you live. However, if you ever change your mind and want to come visit us, look me up. I have an email link. I'll show you around Disneyland and we can hang out on my backyard patio and have a couple cold ones.
Hang loose, dude, it's really a very nice place. |
