i was a cashier. we were supposed to ask everyone for id if paying with a credit card. but i never did. it depends on the cashier not the place. she was just following the rules, doing her job. so it is really up to her/him to ask for id. |

The computer can tell that your card was issued in a foriegn country so it may instruct the clerk to check id. Not easy for them to try to make collections from foriegn countries. I have seen this at Sam's. It is not good to be in a foriegn country without ID. |

Actually, it is normal. |

Was the back of your card signed? I work in retail and if a customer has "check id" on their card, or if it doesn't sign, we ask to see their id to verify. However some places have the policy of checking id regardless. So yes, I would say it is normal...just some places enforce it more than others do. It's for your safety. |

Yes its normal........to prove your identity that the card you're using is in fact yours. |

was the back of you card signed? i worked retail for years and if the card wasnt signed we always asked for id, although actually id should be asked for more often with all the identity theft. i wouldnt take it seriously, probably just being sure it was you......id rather have that happen than someone have my card and no one ask...hope you had a great vacation anyway |

It's supposed to be standard operating procedure at all businesses. Many however just want the sale and don't care about fraud and identity theft, so they don't ask to see I.D. Be glad WalMart asked you... What if you had lost your card or had it stolen? The guy who tried to use it at WalMart would have been arrested and your card confiscated. |

sometimes people ask you for it, sometimes they don't..
the credit card name should match up with the one on your ID which you should have with you at all times anyways.
it's just for safety and security purposes.
side note: food places don't usually ask for ID at all. |

Actually you better be glad they're asking for id. Its a good thing. If someone who wasn't you an was using your credit card and they asked for id chance are they would get caught. Walmart was doing a good thing here. Especially if it said check id on the back of your card. |

you should be glad they are asking, what if someone stole it? |

It's good practice, especially considering the number of scammers these days, and Walmart IDs rather standardly. |

It's nothing personal...........the way I see it is with all the identity theft out there, you are better safe than sorry.
It takes 2 seconds to pull out an ID so I never mind that.
In your case, not having your ID made it very difficult. |

When I used my credit card to pay in Walmart they also asked to see my ID because of they said what I was purchasing needed proof of my age. |

It depends on the cashier. I've been asked only a couple of times for my ID when shopping at Wal Mart. It may be that the cashier may have thought that she was being tested at her job. Meaning, you were employed by Wal mart and checking to see if she went by the rules, or it could be that the other customers in front of you were actually using their debit cards and with those you would need to know your pin number to use it. So there isn't any need to ask for ID. And of course there's the last option, she may have used a profile on you. But I doubt it, afterall it is Wal Mart. Don't sweat it........just bring your ID everytime you plan on using a credit card okay.
Wait......I just realized you were in Orlando. There are a lot of purse nabbing thieves in Orlando. I know cuz 3 out of 4 of my sisters had their purses stolen from them while in public. Scary huh. |

All stores are suppose to ask for ID with a credit card purchase.. the question is why didn't the other stores... It is for our own protection that ID is required... When some one gives you a break, you complain about the one doing their job properly... brilliant!! |
