Decent guys are certainly rare here. I'll give you that. Where do you hang out? What kinds of guys interest you? I don't know what you have already tried.
Here's some suggestions:
Take some classes, like dancing, computers, cooking, etc. You can learn a trade while being social.
Frequent the library. You can get to know its "regulars."
Check out the bars in your area. Find one that feels right for you and become a regular.
Join a gym.

Naturally, none of these suggestions can guarantee intelligent, fun, available AND straight guys, but I hope this helps you in the right direction.

You say decent guys what about decent girls in Seattle. Most girls here in Seattle are almost anti fashion or anti beauty. It's almost looked down upon to put some effort into your appearance. I love to travel to places like Vegas or So Cal because I realize how much I missed beautiful women. I think a lot of people because of the weather are like *** it I'll just not put on make up and wear a sweater all the time. For all the Seattle ladies out there it's OK to put some effort into your appearance, I for one appreatiate it. As of now I'd say about 5% of the female population in Seattle is good looking. In SoCal that 5% is average. Oh yeah one more thing since women are solar powered (Especially in environmentally conscious Seattle) you will only see that 5% pool of hot women the 2 months out of the year that's sunny. Dating in Seattle is like the life of a grizzly bear you mate in the summer and in the winter when the rain comes you find shelter and hibernate until the next mating season comes.

Because most women talk a lot about the kind of guys they want (decent, intelligent, straight), but never actually go for them. If given the choice, women will choose the unemployed, narcissistic, jerk over they guy they claim to want 9 out of 10 times. I bet you have known several guys who meet your criteria.

Your better off....( I am happily married..) but let me tell you have plenty of single gal pals, that enjoy a night out with the girls. Enjoy the time you can single, because once you have a man, its great , but there a times you miss the freedom.

I took dancing lessons in Seattle, and met many attractive, single interesting men. Some would be about your age, and a little older. They were all looking for the same thing you are. They were all attractive, dressed nice, and were friendly. Why don't you try a few lessons in something which interests you. Don't try to find the man of your dreams in a bar, although it can happen.
There are intelligent and fun guys at the coffeehouses near the universities, although you seem a bit old for this scene. Also, suppose all you get is indigestion? Try the lessons, and network, someone's already given you a good lead on a 29 year old established friend. Take it up.

Seriously, I think the old advice would still ring true. Meet them through mutual friends. Else meet them while volunteering or doing some activity you would have mutual interest (hiking group, etc).

And put an ad in the Stranger and see what kind of response that you get.

For all the ratings of many singles in Seattle and best place to date/meet people, Seattle people don't meet up and aren't that friendly in general, I would say. I don't mean to say that people aren't friendly, exactly, as people in Seattle typically seem very friendly, but only on a "shallow" level. I also don't mean to say that they/we are shallow, but that people like to keep "relationships" with many acquaintances fairly shallow and it is hard to break into groups of already established friends/people, even in the dating scene. I think there's a lot more of the friendliness in terms of casual hellos and waving and smiling, but less of anything much deeper until you get to know people a lot.

I work in south Seattle by the port and have a freind I work with who is single. He is a decent guy and I have had no personal or professional problems with him. Mail me if you would like me to talk to him for you if interested. Don't worry. I am married. I am doing this for him. But, he is 29. But, he is established. Meaning he is mature!!

it is a problem suffered by both genders, usually the result of the fact that men and women often have differing interests and thus are attending to different things.
