Why are there so many hobos in LA?

I mean, I was born in Los Angeles, California and I'm still living here. But why is there a lot more hobos or homeless people in California than in any other states? Is it because we share a border with Mexico? No offense, Mexicans are cool, but...?

It's not a mexican problem..It's both a mental health issue and plainly people can't afford housing. With the onset of no rent control this city has changed. More people come here from the southern and mid west states thinking LA is cool place to live beaches great weather cheap and they find out differently. The homeless have increased the population because they both don't want to live in housing and they don't want to live in downtown LA also there are not enuf services for the mentally ill as many don't want to be housed thy're too paranoid and feel closed in.

Any city that has a warm or mild climate year round will attract the homeless. Remember, they do not have a home to keep them warm like the rest of us.

I think that there are more homeless people in LA because everything there is much more expensive than other places.

Probably because of the fact that los angeles is a gangster city.

The weather, especially close to the water where the climate is quite reasonable.

I work on Skid Row for an organization for the Homeless. Some are Mentally ill some are addicts/alcoholics, some are from prisons, some are vets, some have just been released from hospitals and there was not anyone to pick them up when released. Some are families who dead beat dads wont pay child support and the families was forced from their homes, some are illegals whom are running from the law, some are sex offenders running from their parole agents. Downtown Skid Row is the Dumping ground for all the throw aways, I've worked in the Skid Row area for almost two years now, and it's getting worst. Now the prison and jails are dumping there inmates here.

I have lived all over the country and I currently live in Los Angeles. In comparison, we do not have a lot of homeless people.

It has nothing to do with Mexicans or being near the border.

I grew up in Santa Monica, which has had huge homeless problems over the years. Partly due to lack of mental facilities in California. And also because the local city government is very liberal, practically welcoming in a homeless population. In fact, I remember reading many years ago about states, as far away as Florida, purchasing one-way bus tickets to Santa Monica for their local vagrants who were repeatedly causing problems.

No, it's not the border. Some of the Mexicans coming here illegally may be homeless, but they're more discreet, to avoid being sent back. The homeless pan-handlers that you see everywhere in L.A. are mentally ill or have severe drug or alcohol problems.

I live in Texas, which also borders Mexico and there aren't many hobos here...at least not where I live. I think California has a lot more homeless people because the cost of living is so much higher there than other places.

I like Cali..my sister and her family live there but I wouldn't want to move there...visiting is fine with me.

Alexa R
Because the cost of living is way TOO high.

homeless
The climate is perfect for Hobos.
