I think you're right about some of the people on this website being extremely self-centered. And you're probably right that Americans have a harder time fighting the urge to be self- centered than most other people in the world. But just as a couple other people have said, the things you read on Answers aren't an accurate representation of American society as a whole. I'd say give it a chance and come to the U.S., you'll probably be surprised at the hospitality you recieve when you get here. However, some people criticize Americans for being cold and abrupt, but then again every criticism comes with a bias, so what can you do? If you really want to know what the U.S. is like you'll have to come live here or visit for an extended period of time, and I hope you do! Best of luck! |

I love Australia. You are hearing from the people who are egotistical. If you visit the central part of the USA we are not self centered. |

Don't let a few people on here be your judge- there is so much to see and do in America, and a lot of it really is beautiful. There are people in every country who think they are better than others. I would love to visit your country someday myself! C'mon over, and the'll be plenty of people like me waiting to greet you and show you some good ol' American hospitality! |

Please don't judge us all by some of the wack jobs you see on Answers. Like any other country, we have our good people and our not so good people, but overall, most Americans are very friendly and curious about other places and those who live there. Give us a chance, you won't be disappointed. |

I hope that you won't base your opinions of the U.S. just on what you see and read here. I hope that you will get a chance to visit and get to know some local people in an average neighborhood you may be surprised and even find a lot of people just like you. Personally, I love to learn about new cultures and different parts of the world and I believe that we are all pretty much the same when it comes right down it. |

Americans can be pretty self involved.

Hi Angel,
Last summer I hosted some Polish teenagers and their young adult chaperones in my Arizona home for a few days. It was interesting to hear them talk about what they thought Americans would be like, and what they actually found them to be like once they met us.
We enjoyed each other's company and learned so much about each other's culture. They were surprised to find that we were not wild, partying, immoral people like they are led to believe when they watch America television like MTV.
I hope you do come to the US to visit, there are truly many wonderful people here, and many places to visit across the country. Of course it won't compare with your country, which is on my dream list to visit, but it is good to see how small the world really is, and how similar we really all are. |

can't balme ya much. if i lived somewhere else, i dont think i'd really want to come to America, either... i mean... most of us are cocky jerks... more are than aren't...

Dear Angel,
I visited Denver, Colorado in USA for a month. I'm from Argentina.
The people there is very very warm and nice. I had a wonderfull time.
They told (the USA's people) me that all depends of the people you met. They didn't like New Yorkers so much... but love Miami.
I think Americans are very proud of their country. I like it. You should be too about your country. If it is Canada I thinks is so so great that I'm going to live there next year in March.
Think this: If some body says "I'm so so good! I'm the one!" It is for shure not true in a logical - objetive sense... But it shows that person's feelings and auto-esteem and I think that person is very ok. You should try. I've learnd that in USA and it feels so good.
Now say with me dear Angel: "I'm the greates person IN THE WORLD!. THANKS GOD! I'M SO HAPPY I AM ME! THANKS MOM AND DAD YOU REALLY DID GREAT! And if not I can FIX IT! HEHEHEHE HAHAHA!!!" If somebody feels not ok with your sentence... may it he/she have a problem with you or him/her self... not your problem.
Sending a hug! Martin. |

I would like to say what a lot of others have said here. There are good and bad people in every country in the world and there's probably only a really small percentage of this country who get on Yahoo Answers.
None of my friends get on here and some don't know what it is and some don't even have a computer
Come visit here, there's lots to see and do and you will find very hospitable people here. I would like to visit Australia if I ever get the money to do so. |

Not all of american think that and you only get a small percentage of us here. Not only that but most ppl here just talk to be talkin. But there are rude ppl in every country and if you would like to visit to broaden your horizons don't let a few ignorants change your mind. There are a lot of beautiful places here as there are in every country. And don't group us all together, I happen to be from the South and I promise we are very polite here. Stay open minded ;) |

Angel - please don't judge Americans by a few people posting on the internet, or by our current administration in Washington. Sure we have an arrogant President, but by far the majority of Americans are normal, down-to-earth people who look out for each other, raise their children, travel when they can, and love learning about other cultures. And please ignore the poster who said the majority of Americans are stupid because of "Cops." Good lord. Like the "majority" of us have ever appeared on that trashy show! Every country has its jerks - because America is a global superpower at the moment, we probably have a few more than our share. But they are still by FAR the minority.
I hope you change your mind and decide to come to visit. You'll be very pleasantly surprised, I promise! Especially if you visit some Southern cities (Atlanta, Savannah, Charleston, S.C.) and the Midwest (Minneapolis, Chicago). |

to answer your question a simple fact i have travelled to England Europe Canada Asia and i have never been more happy to return to where i left Sydney Australia

I have no idea how you were answered by someone who thinks they are better than others. Most Americans are very friendly and helpful to others. Drive through any small town and see how many people wave at you. Or break down on a country road and see how fast someone offers help. Here is West Virginia, we love tourists and we love people....ask anyone. |

I believe there are good and bad in every country. You shouldn't judge all of us by what a few ignorant people post on this website. Some of them have never been out of the city they were born in.Some have wealth and are quite snooty! I don't care much for their kind either. The people in the mid American states and southerners are the most gracious hosts. Not everyone in this country share the same view. Some of us are down to earth and nice! |

don't let something you read stop you from becoming something you see!! Seek true diversity, don't stereotype "Americans" or "Australians" based only on a web site..... you'd end up becoming what you fear to face; too self centered to want to be around "those people".
Go for You! Who know who'll you meet!! |

lol oh my god.....
OK there are MILLIONS of people living in America
and you are saying the vast majority? geez don't let 7 or eight ppl make u think this way |

Your sample is way too small. You see only those who choose to be on answers. Why do you choose to draw a conclusion on so little data? Americans are proud of their country. I assume you are proud of yours also. It is your loss to decide not to visit our country. |

i agree with thunder to a point. there are almost 300 million people in the united states and you are going to base your opinion on maybe on a few thousand??? that would be like saying i don't like your question therefore i am not coming to your country. there are some people that think that americans are better than others, but that is not the view of all 300 million. of course a lot think that america is the best country ever, but it is our country. just like i am sure that you think your country is great and everyone else in the world. you should visit the US. it is a beautiful country with so many freedoms and things to see. |

Austrailians are good - 0h yes we get a little carried away - it must be this freedom of speach thing. We are hard working fun loving people. We play as hard as we work and want it all. We want the best homes, jobs and don't forget the best sex. We want the best for our children. We want and get the latest tech stuff. We love our computers and our Ipod Nanos. Is this so bad - maybe we should be more humble - I am not sure - life is so short - we just try to cram as much as we can - so don't hate us because we are full of ourselves - somebody has to care. |

I agree with thunder2sys.
How can you base your opinion on just what you read on this website?
You have to visit and live in a country and not make assumptions. |

so you are going to let the anonymous postings on yahoo answers shape your opinion of Americans? Thats pretty narrowminded of you. If you don't want to come to the US because of what some people posted on Yahoo answers then fine, we definately don't need you here. |

Good--we don't want you here anyway, stay home |

I'm not sure what you are so upset about, but to give you some perspective:
The United States is 3,794,083 square miles in size and has about 300 million residents. To travel from one country to another in Europe, for example, is like traveling from one state to another in the US. We have plenty to deal with within our own cities and states. I do not have time to concern myself with what is going on in another state, much less another country, on a daily basis. That doesn't mean I don't care.
Americans are very caring and generous. We are aiding other countries every single day. We are feeding the hungry, building homes for the poor, healing the sick and trying to restore peace in war torn areas around the world. I believe your accusation of self-centeredness is wrong. |

It looks like we dodged a bullet. Stay wherever the hell you are now. I've put up with too many self-righteous, ignorant foreigners already in my life.
I'm sorry we don't live up to your standards, Princess. Somehow we'll just have to muddle through without you. |
