Good LAWD! This AM I went to the Burbank Airport and the second it started to rain....and poof.
Actually, after a long period of dry. Oil collects on the surface of the concrete and it is slick on the first rain of the season. |

because it hardly rains and they're not used to it. |

Well, I was just thinking that myself. I just saw on KTLA that a guy ran over 3 kids this morning at an elementary school in Diamond Bar.
Maybe it's because they got so used to driving on dry pavement that rain made the roads so slippery and they're not used to it? |

People from Chicago suffer from the same illness. If it so much as mists or sprinkles traffic slows to a crawl. I'm going to be driving though Chicago late tonight, hope there is good weather. |

I don't know. People here in Northern Virginia aren't much better and I'm sure we get more rain than you. Slow causes a complete shutdown. |

With the economy the way it is people are probably driving on bald tires! I know my truck needs a set of tires but I just don't have the $600 to $800 it would take to put on a new set.
OF COURSE when it rains or snows I DRIVE CAREFULLY!
So I guess you are not bald? |

Because as the old song from the 70's says..... " It Never Rains In Southern California" |

It's called short term memory loss. Some need to re-learn every time the regular changes. In our area, we go through the same ordeal during the first snow and ice storm. I often wonder how these people find their way home, if they have to take a detour. Do they drive around aimlessly, maybe that explains the growth of Tom Tom. Good question. |

I've heard that said before and find it amazing. I live in Buffalo and regularly navigate my PT Cruiser through a foot of snow. We think nothing of it. Rain is considered a good day. |

Two reasons.
It doesnt rain much, so it confuses them.
Secondly, when it DOES rain, especially for the first time, lots of the oils and rubber residue in the pavement come to the top and creates a very slippery surface. Some say worse than ice. |

Oh honey if it's not sunny here then no one knows how to drive. And I live in Ohio. I wished that I just had one of those buttons that turned your car in to a jet and fly home.....and then I think some more and think, nah I like the quiet in my car before I go home to my 3 hyperactive children! |

Inexperience! It'd be like if someone from NorCal pulled up to a stop light and Lindsay Lohan was in the car next to you. We probably wouldn't even notice, but if we did we'd freak ;-) |

What makes you think you drive so well? Just because you haven't had an accident yet today? |

No, the simple reason is this: people here are idiots. |

did you just move out there? i lived there for m a n y years. they cannot drive in the rain to save their lives. i think its because they barely get any so they dont get the practice. it's such a shame because they have beautiful, huge freeways and some of their side streets are bigger than a parkway, but a little rain and the whole system gets screwed up. |
