Why do a lot of people hate our New York Accent?

i guess some people don't have any manners.

i live in texas, and we actually had a northerner (from wisconsin) make fun of us and ask if we all rode horses to school, cause we all sounded so "country."

lol!

i like NY accents. they're very nice.

I don't. Took a school trip there last year, lots of people shouted at us but its an incredible and vibrant city. Hope to return soon.

My husband has it and I make fun of him all the time - he makes fun of my accent too. I just think we all like stickin it to each other fo fun!

I think it's pretty. but I think the reason why is because there is a lot of negative baggage attached to the accent. For example a lot of gang movies have taken place in New York where the gang members have the accents. So some people associate bad people and bad things with the accents.

IDK, some ppl don't like the NY accent, because the speech can occasionally be slurred, and it can lead to misunderstandings.

alot of people do think that we speak poorly...which is interesting because we STILL have a higher standard of living than most of the country lol

Besides, there is a lot of variety to NY accents - we don't all sound like Bugs Bunny.I like a NY accent - makes me feel at home :) Can you really picture Woody Allen without his accent?

some people in new york don't like speaking with the accent because its considered lower class. Most professional people stop speaking with the accent to sound more intelligent.

I HAte WHen People Make Fun of My ACccent! New york is the best state out there, our accent is one of a kind. They are just jealous.

i don,t hate it,but i don,t like it, raised in the Bronx, i would rather talk with a British accent or German or French accent, ny accents lol clowns, always "da Bronx" and a Brooklyn accent, too comical, lol talking in a southwestern or southern drawl has more appeal, ny accents ha ha ha comical, dull boring, but i don,t hate them,
