Could it be America is just one of the worst countrys in the world? We're a violent blood thristy nation who thinks we are the worlds police and should stick our noses into everything going on. America focus on helping every country out there but our own. I'm ashamed to be an American. Our health care system sucks, and our goverment is as crooked as they come. Could this be why people hate us? If I was a foreigner I would hate us.

when travelling abroad, Americans tend to display a certain arrogance and ignorance plus the politics of the country in regards to other nations.
That is how it is perceived by others.
It is always the badly behaved travellers that spoil it for the decent people the Americans really are.
It's quite simple really.....when you're on top, everyone tries to knock you down.
The Germans had that reputation for a long time as well.
Some might still say we are arrogant....lol....but never ignorant....
I'm a Canuck and right proud to have Americans as our neighbours. I know some wonderful people who are American.

It might be because the to the rest of the world, Americans appear to be overbearing, self-concerned, selfish, materialistic, rude, unintelligent, jerks who are overly opinionated, lazy, and continue to make money, and posessions our highest priority. I imagine that they see things that represent America as being extravagant, and yet it's no secret that we have a huge population of folks who are destitute, and homeless. Doesn't matter why it is the way it is. I think that looking in from the outside it would appear that while we're having the Superbowl, or Inaugural Balls, and such, our own people are suffering the affects of hurricanes, floods, and fires, hunger, unemployment, human slavery and the list goes on. Dirty laundry, and extravagance is going to make the news, everytime. If it's a nice pleasant story, why would it make the news?
I suppose we could continue to blame it all on President Bush, but that would appear pretty silly considering that less than half of the American population who are eligible to vote, actually do. Another squandered freedom so that we can all sit around running our mouths about how, through no fault of our own, we got shafted.
We look spoiled rotten, and we look greedy, and we appear to have no sympathy for others. We aren't apple pie, and hot dogs anymore. We're IPODS, and Lincoln Navigators. We're not defending other countries anymore, we're invading them, and then protesting the same soldiers that we sent to war while their families are trying to lay them to rest.
I'm not saying that all of us here are guilty of all of these things, but I imagine that it sure looks that way in other countries.
As an example, it would seem that a large population of Americans would prefer to lump all Muslims into one category: insanely, brainwashed terrorists, when honestly they aren't all brainwashed terrorists. We only see stories brainwashed terrorists on TV. They don't air stories about Muslims going to the grocery store, or taking their kids to school. It's not newsworthy. Why would we assume that Muslims might not all be bad? We didn't see any news stories about "good" Muslims. Why would we assume that only a few Muslims are bent on changing the world by violent means?
Hope that makes sense. I'm not actully tring to make any political statements. I'm just trying to say that perception can only be based on the information a person is exposed to.

Hey Christopher, if your ashamed to be an american, why dont you try living in a different country, like afghanistan, or mexico, and see how much your views change, here your allowed to have an opinion like that, there you would just be killed for daring to express your opinion!

Somebody told me it was because we idolize celebrities too much, and that we don't seem happy with ourselves. I think he was going on a stereotype of Americans, we aren't all like that.
