why do people live in florida when hurricanes hit every year? why do people live in california when floods are a big problem? because, its a place to live. i would rather live in an air conditioned house with no chance of having it destroyed in any natural disaster(which i am) than live in an area with natural disasters every year.

1. Because it is beautiful. You can ski in the morning, Drive a couple of hours and swim in the afternoon. If you get tired of the desert you can drive an hour and half and be in the deepest of forests.
2. You can run around in shorts in January.
3. You get used to the heat. There is a period of time from about June through August called the Monsoon Season where it rains and gets muggy, but by then you have been in the dry oven of 115+ so you welcome the moisture. A common myth is that Arizona has dry heat. Well think about it this way. You bake your chicken in an oven and the heat in there is a dry heat. Do you want to be in the oven?
4. Jobs. Maricopa County the 5th largest metro Area in the nation continually has a unemployment rate of below 4%. It is a diverse economy, from technology to farming. Yeah, Arizona has a lot of farms including one of the largest dairy farms in the nation.
5. It's not California. I love Californians, but truth be told, they are sort of pretentious. Arizona is home, laid back.
6. The Grand Canyon! Where else can you make fun of people for oooing and awing over a giant hole in the ground?
7. Great Universities. ASU and UofA.
8. The Phoenix Suns!
9. Rivers without water. It is fun to see people go looking for the Great Salt River and finding nothing more than a dry river bed.
10. The politics. It is great to watch Republicans eat thier own faces trying to talk bad about a Democratic Governor who is doing a good job in a Republican state.

Contrary to popular belief, Arizona:
Isn't all cactus and sage brush
Isn't a foreign country
Isn't hot all year long, it snows in the desert too
Isn't filled with water parks, there are only 3-4 in the Valley of the Sun.
Isn't filled with idiots who don't know better than to get out of the sun.

Alex
because it keeps the riff raff away

it is a great place to live lots of mormons and ijust love it

?
Because theres no humidity which means less allergies, sinus problems, and a whole bunch of stuff. that why older people like to go there

Gen
Because it's not that hot. That's a clever myth we use to keep too many people from moving in and making the place look like a Los Angeles suburb. There's 2 weeks that it's really uncomfortable out, but the other 50 or so weeks of the year, it feels great to be here. And I grew up (in the 1990s) in a home that had no air conditioning, and no evaporative (swamp) cooling. Just fans, and open windows.

GoodGushieGushie
Because it is amazing and they have in-n-out burger

sassy_smart2000
I guess that is where they want to live.

Why do people live in Alaska when it is so cold there??

People have jobs, families, and a way of life. We can't always choose where we live. Sometimes we can but Arizona is a place like everywhere else.

Because they want too.

Since it's SO hot there, there are TONS of water parks. Everyone, I mean EVERONE, even the poor people have a pool there. There's a water park in Phoenix called Big Wave that my friends Laure and Mike swear by because they moved form Phoenix last year.

Well, for me, it's the pros outweights the cons. And most of the time, you won't be out there in the heat anyways, as you would be in air-conditioned cars and places. Besides, I think the heat really isn't that bad compared to places with High Humidity like Texas. It is also a pretty affordable place compared to other cities, which beats the heat for me and I don't think it is very hot either... It is also hot for just 3 months and a lot cooler for the rest of the year..

It beats the heck out of dressing in layers from head to toe, icicles hanging from your nose, scraping the ice off your car, swatting at bugs all summer, living through hurricanes, tornadoes, floods...just to name a few reasons.

Airconditioning.

Jessica
I am from all over California and the tempeture does not feel much different at all.

We get great winters

I can actually afford a really nice house here

The desert is very beautiful and monsoon season is coming which I love (crazy storms with lots of lightning :)

bigdogthepirate
It's cheaper than California, but still has all the benefits of incredibly overpriced real estate.

Ken W
Air conditioning, low pollen and mold count plus low humidity. Lower taxes and no cold or snow.
