I do it jokingly but I don't see anything wrong with it. Northerner by birth southerner for now.. I lived in Tennessee for a while and now living in Texas. Its just for fun like YEEHAW! Its actually all over the south not just Texas. I don't think its stereotypical its a southern thing and even in the north too We did that in Michigan even so I think its really all over the country. Even in Vegas I lived out there and knew people that yelled that out lol. |

Because they don't want you to mess with Texas. And if you DO mess with Texas, they will send you to the electric chair. |

It's a redneck thing and it's not exclusive to Texas. I live in Alabama and I hear white guys shout that all the time -- especially at NASCAR or Auburn/Alabama football games. |

"Yee-Haw" is the same as Yahoo!!! |

Of course it's a stereotype, just like all texans aren't cowboys either... |

its just a texas thing
like florida some people say "papi"
new yorkers say drop f bombs all the time.
people from mass always refer to things as "wicked"
that car was wicked fast, my friend is wicked smart,
that food was wicked good
i could do this all day.
but you get the point. |

It's just a stereotype. It's like saying all texans like George Bush because he's from texas. To be quite honest there are cowboys and stuff but I have never ever heard them say YEE HAW. |

I've lived here my whole life and we don't run around saying "yee-haw". That is just a stereotype. How about you come VISIT and see what it's like here!!!!!!!!! And no, we don't all listen to country music either. =) |

Your stupid. OF COURSE THAT'S A STEREOTYPE! I never even said that before, I don't even think people say it at all anymore. Not all of Texas is country. We have some of the biggest cities in the U.S. I never even seen a person yell "yee-haw" on a horse. I have on;y seen a horse up close and in person like 2 times. Plus, Texas is not filled with so much red-necks or cowboys anymore. It's filled with a bunch of immigrants (mostly from Mexico), and some Hispanics that were already born in the U.S., white (rich) people and black people. |

i live in Texas your right we do yell that alot only in the Texan tipe restraunts tho we dont go running across the streets going yelling that. And they try to embaris you in the restraunts. |

Its a stereotype for the most part. Like someone else said it usually means the same as "Yahoo!" or "Woo Hoo!"
You mostly hear it in country bars on occasion or at a rodeo. The vast majority of Texans do not say it. And it is a left over phrase from the cowboy days like "Howdy". |
