Only outsiders call it "Cali", just like only outsiders dare call it "Frisco".
Do as I do and subtract IQ points when they do...

When I moved to the Midwest after living in California for a number of years and heard people ask me, "Oh, so you're from Cali?", I thought they meant the city in Colombia (the famous one associated with the drug cartel).

Anon
I don't and it bothers me when people say "Cali", "Frisco", or "Sacto." It's not that hard to say the full name.

copestir
I anly have heard that from out of staters. I have recently been seeing it on signs and stuff like that.

gypsyveg
I've lived her all my life and only in the last year have I heard people use it, but mostly in an email name because the full name is too long.

Sounds batter than saying the entire name

I'm from SoCal (Southern California) and a lot of us here call it Cali as a nickname. Here, we call LA "The City", Sacramento "Sac Town", San Francisco "San Fran", San Diego "Daygo",

birdgirl
I'm from California and I use it all the time...also use So. Cal. too...just shorter to type out I guess.

It's short for California and the term grew in popularity after the song my LL Cool J "Going back to Cali"
