If you are a professional being paid a salary you work until the job is done. Quit whining!

Jeff
umm, maybe because you're on salary.. and usually salary people get's bonuses close to the end of the year to compensate for the over time during the year.

Luce
Because businesses take advantage of their employees.

Until everyone stands up for themselves and refuses to do it, it will still keep on happening.

I bet you haven't talked to your union steward!
I bet you haven't attended your union meetings!!
I bet you don't have a union!!!

I bet you should form a union!

Unless you are on salary you don't. You may get paid straight wages if that was your employment agreement but if they stiff you, drop a dime on the IRS because that also means they didn't pay your taxes.

if you get paid by the hour than the law says you have to get paid for OT. If you are on salary, than you don't

There are two kinds of employees that companies (in the US) can hire: salaried and hourly. Employees who earn a salary may be required to work as many hours as necessary to accomplish the job. Sometimes companies provide bonuses or compensatory time off for excessive "overtime" by salaries emplyees, but they are not required, by law, to provide any compensation for this besides the offerred salary. However, hourly employee are paid by the hour they work. These are the employees that must be paid overtime if their hours go past 40 hours per day; otherwise, the company is in violation of the law.

Your frustration clearly says that it time to speak with your boss about the amount of time ypu're working. Maybe this situation is not a good fit for you.

I don't know what job that is, but where I work you get paid to work overtime.

Shawn D
Anything over 40 hours in a week is considered overtime. The law states that they have to pay you overtime for anything over 40 hours in a week. If you work 50 hours, that's 40 hours of staight pay and 10 hours of overtime. Some places pay time and a half, some double time. If you are working overtime and not getting paid at all, they are stealing from you. Unless you are working on salary, or commision only.

Ice Khou
So they wont get fired.

4REAL
where ever you work you need to quit asap

jtm_74
I've never heard of such a thing. If you aren't getting paid for your overtime, that's illegal. And if you're not doing anything to stop this, you're naive.

it is against the law not to get paid for it, call your local district attorney.

I know why becauses you Boss said so.There is a law that says you must be paid atleast time and a half after 40 hrs but there also is some thing to the effect that it depends on your actual position so you might not get your ot pay

For the facts call you labor board or look it up[ on Google I think its a federal law

If this is happening to you then do something about it. Talk to your boss, or get the authorities involved. They can't do this. They will if you do nothing about it.

HotNurse71
It's actually against the law. You have to get paid for hours worked. You can sue them for it if they don't pay you. The only way they cannot get sued is if they are under contract or salary...
