Why does everyone think New York is such a great city???

I just got back from NYC last week. I hated it. All commericialised crap. New York talks big but offers very little. Can't even seem to get a good beer there.

In my travels, the best city in North America is Toronto ... by FAR.

I think it is a great city. Even though I love London I feel a lot safer in New York.

Both cities have their strong points and it depends on the individual and what they are looking for.

By the way Boz there are fat people in London as well.

It has been my experience that when you visit NY for the first time you will have one of two reactions. You will either hate it or love it.

I live in NYC and have loved it ever since I can remember coming here for the first time in my life. (childhood)....

I think that you have to know what you like in order to find it in NY. For instance if you like theater, or art then you go to the Museums, galleries or places to catch a show. If you like restaurants and good food, there are thousands of places in which you can find the kind of food that meets your needs.

As for beer, I have been to countless pubs that have a wide variety of beers, ales, drinks...

Over all, perhaps next time you visit you should see the city from an insider's view. They know the real NY not just the one described in the guide books and made popular by movies.

I travel a lot for work and leisure and although there are some other great cities out there, NYC will always be the place where you can hail a cab and find anything you heart desires at any hour of the day and night.

I love Toronto too, but New York City is amazing. Best Restaurants anywhere. Broadway is the most incredible place, there is more talent there than anywhere on earth. I love the shopping. Beats the mall any day and there is so much history there, so much to see. The museums, the attractions, Central Park..it is fantastic. I can't wait to go back.

Cause NYC is the greatest, too bad you don't like my city, we are probably better off if you don't come back stick to small towns

Think!!
1. NYC IS THE EASIEST PLACE ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET TO NAVIGATE, IT HAS THE BEST SUBWAY SYSTEM IN THE WORLD FOR NOT JUST MANHATTAN BUT 75 MILES OF SUBURBS IN NOT JUST ONE DIRECTION BUT ALL 4. MOST OF MANHATTAN IS EASILY GRIDDED, LIKE FROM 1ST STREET TO 145ST. IF YOU LIKE YOUR LITTLE TORONTO SO BAD, THERE IS AN ARMY OF EXPRESS TRAINS THAT'LL DROP YOU OFF IN BUFFALO AND CONTINUE ON FROM THERE. NOTE THAT IT IS LESS THAN 1 HOUR TO NYC FROM PHILADELPHIA, AND SEVERAL HOURS FROM MONTREAL AND BOSTON.

2. CULTURE KICKS ANY OTHER CITIES A$$, PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, FROM ALL BACKROUNDS AND CULTURES COME TO NYC, TO PAINT, MAKE MUSIC, MAKE MOVIES, MODEL. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT NO GOOD ALCOHOL IN NYC, YOU MUST OF VISITED WITH ONLY A FEW HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SAY THAT, AN AVERAGE NYC CLUB IS STOCKPILED WITH ALL MOST EVERY TYPE OF ALCOHOL! IF TORONTO IS SO GOOD, HOW COME THERE AREN'T THAT MUCH MOVIES FROM THERE?

3. AMONG THE BEST JOB MARKET IN THE WHOLE NATION.

4. MYC METRO IS NOT JUST NYC, BUT SEVERAL OTHER METROPOLIS'S, LIKE JERSEY CITY, ATLANTIC CITY, NEWARK, YONKERS, DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, HARTFORD, STAMFORD, ETC.

5. BEST ATTRACTIONS, SIX FLAGS IS JUST A FEW MILES WEST OF NYC IN JERSEY, AND ATLANTIC CITY IS A FEW DOZEN MILES SOUTH, HOTTEST CLUBS, SHOPPINK CAPIATAL OF THE WORLD ALONG WITH PARIS AND TOKYO AND MAYBE L.A. THE BEST MUSEUMS IN THE WORLD ALONG CENTRAL PARK. 4 BIG STADIUMS. IF YOU LIKE THE GLAMMY LIFESTYLE GO TO THE HAMPTONS.

6. CITYSCAPE, IF YOU DON'T LIKE MIDTOWN MANHATTAN'S DENSE SKYLINE GO DOWNTOWN FOR A MORE MODERN SLIGHTLY LESS DENSE SKYLINE, WHICH WILL LOOK SO HOT IN THE COMING YEARS WHEN THE WTC COMPLEX IS COMPLETED, WTC 7 IS COMPLETED. IF YOU DON'T LIKE DOWNTOWN, CROSS THE RIVER INTO JERSEY CITY OR DOWNTOWN BROOKYLYN, IF YOU STILL DON'T LIKE ANY OF THOSE GO TO NEWARK OR HARTFORD! HAVE ANY BIG SKYLINES IN LONDON, EXCEPT FOR TINY LITTLE CANARY WHARF?

7. TIME SQUARE, DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED!

I ONLY SCRATCHED THE SURFACE OF WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT NYC.

Who really cares london or New York??? live in the countryside like i do then you dont have to put up with all the noise, pollution an crap that goes on in cities, But if like so many have said if it's where your heart is then GO for it each to thier own

I Heart NYC as i think it is an amazing and impressive city. However, there are certain things about it that are irritating - namely the lack of good healthy food and cheap fashions! it seemed to me that in order to have nice clothes one must have a fair amount of money (which just isn't the case in UK). Plus a salad over there is literally just lettuce and maybe some tomatoes!

You'll always find things wrong with big cities because you inevitably compare to where you live. I think it's interesting that not everywhere is the same and even bad experiences of a place add to your time away.

Overall, i thought NYC rocked just as I love London - not sure i could live in either though x

I loved New York. There is so much to see and do, especially if you don't fall for the touristy crap. Just the atmosphere- the noise, the crowds, there's a magic in the air. Even some touristy stuff... going to a Broadway show on Friday night in Times Square. Watching the Statue of Liberty grow closer as you approach by ferry. Standing on Ellis Island and picturing all the masses of people who entered America at that same spot. Pure magic.

I agree. They keep going on about the shopping but only if you can afford designer shops. I did find the people nice to me though except for one. Sydney is the best place to visit outside of England

UH OH....depends upon which parts of manhattan you went to...
there's an area in manhattan called little britain.....
in greenwich village....on greenwich street....
there's a restaurant called tea & sympathy...you could have gotten bangers & mash and perfect beer there....
look at their website....
there are many nice places in manhattan..just have to know where to go.....to avoid the commercialised parts.

????????? don't know ask some one else

Wal
If you were born there then it is but for any one else it is just like any other city Noisy, Dirty, Smelly and highly polluted, it is all hype, I lived in London for 2 years but I did not think a lot of it, but a guy I worked with came from Hackney and he would not live any where else for all the money in the world, it is where you heart is.

boz
Beats me. Its like London, but dirtier, and full of fat people.

TeaCup
Boz: New York is NOTHING like London. London is great. NY is crap.
