Why don't people here admit that Texas is in the south?

southwest, southeast, it doesn't matter. The south is the south. And everybody has a southern accent.
Additional Details
Don't try to sugarcoat it ray.

Yes, Texas is in the south people.

Why do you ask such bating and Texas/Houston Hating questions should really be the question. I have never heard anyone say Texas isn't in the South. Though most say it is part of the Southwest. But Texas was part of the confederacy so it was also part of the 'The South'.

If you don't like Houston or Texas move away.

As for Southern Accents, I would suspect most Texans believe they have Texan Accents which is different from a Southern Accent. Just like a Boston accent is diferent from NY accent. Also many houstonians are from other places and bring their accents with them.

Texans pride themselves on being unique. They're always going to insist they're the biggest, hottest, weirdest, etc. They just don't want to be grouped with anyone else, even if the evidence is stacked against 'em (i.e. everyone says "y'all" and the state was a part of the Confederacy).

That said, I think the best way to describe Texas is "South by Southwest," like the music festival. We have debutantes and grits, but also cowboys and tumbleweed. There's just a little bit of both the south and the west in Texas culture.

PANDABEAR
I admit we're in the South...and I don't know anyone who doesn't

texas is more bigger and better, and the accents aren't exactly the same. the "south" is considered to be more country like, and lazy. that's not true from where i live.

well, i consider myself southern... and i'm just in Missouri!!
so i'll admit for you that Texas is in the south...have a beautiful day now!!

Mr Wolf
It may be in the central america too..

People in Texas think they're different than other "Southerners" as Texas was actually an independent country for a time. It is the only state that can fly it's flag at the same level as the US flag. Texas actually had an embassy in London and Paris:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_embassy

When old-timer Texans talk about 'seceding' from the Union, they aren't referring to the confederacy, but to Texas itself.

By the way. Texas is not the southern most part of the US. The big island of Hawaii is. Key West, Florida is the southern most point on the continental US.

Texan
I do admit that Texas is in the south. It's south of most other states.

kbraut832
Lived in Texas all of my life. It is in the South and always has been.

It is one of the southern states. But it helps to break things down a bit. Know where to start to look on the map. Southeast, southwest. Same goes with the Northern states.

The ~Muffin~ Man
Texas is in the south. And it's more south central, but I digress...

Some of us don't have accents though (at least not a southern accent). Some of us were born elsewhere and ended up here because of our jobs...

Perhaps you are in Mexico. And texas there would be in the north.

Ray
Texas is in the South but it's not THE South.

The "southwest" does differ from he "southeast" in some ways. What is the most hated ethnicity in Texas? Are those people as equally hated in the Southeast?

The distinction between the South and the West goes back at least as far as the US Civil War.

Much of what is called the "West" was captured from the the Spanish Empire and Mexico.

The US began the war over the rights of US citizens in Mexico to own human beings in Mexico when slavery was illegal in Mexico.

In response to coe711, there IS a North Texas and a South Texas. North Texas is the area where Dallas is, and South Texas is where Harlingen and Brownsville are.

I do NOT have a southern accent!!!

yes, Texas is in the south (can't get much more southern, can you?) but also seems to be West too....

it's just so gosh darn big..... it's south, west, and central all at the same time....
I never thought of it as east, though.

okay now I'm just rambling.
