Why is Atlanta such a Hell hole?

I've lived in Atlanta for 30 years. It is an unlivable city.

I used to live in Los Angeles. Atlanta is now going throughthe same deterioration.

Now I call Atlanta "Atlangeles".

DO you feel the same way? Traffic, smog, drought, angry people, crime, murder, gangs, etc...

Atlanta is Hell on Earth, I know I live here....

In case you don't know, we have a saying in Georgia for those who don't like it here:
I-75 North is open 24/7 for your driving convenience.

If it's such a hell hole, why are you still living there? You suggested to someone else to live in Madison, GA. Why don't you move there?

sun_shinevt
Atlanta isn't a hell hole and it isn't an unliveable city. We aren't the worst for crime/murder/gangs and to be honest with you our city is actually a lot cleaner & nicer looking than alot of other cities, we also have more jobs, companies, culture, etc compared to lots of other cities. All big cities have problems. You could call NYC a hell hole too if you want. If you don't like Atlanta, maybe you should try living in Detroit.

KWilbanks
I dont mind living here, but I would much much rather live in the N GA mountains

I agree with the traffic part - it sucks and I swear it gets worse by the day! Road rage worsens as it gets warmer too.

I've lived here pretty much my whole life though, moved to Chicago for 2 yrs and loved it! Came back to Atlanta and took me a while to get use to. Ive just sucked it up though because my hubby and I just bought a house our in burbs so its cozy with a big back yard for the dogs. I like my job too so thats mostly why Im here (plus my family lives here).

But if your miserable here then maybe you should look into another city?

Coming from Detroit, I would not consider Atlanta Hell on Earth. Although Atlanta does share its problems with many major cities like Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, New York, and Omaha, the city is growing and is becoming a World Class City. Today in Atlanta, you meet people from all over the United States of America and The World. Places I have met people from the United States have included Ohio, Montana, Alaska, California, New York and Texas and places around the world I have met people included Venezuela, Canada, and Nigeria.

I would not consider Atlanta as an unlivable city because the city government is not corrupt, education is good, state government is good, and it has a variety of things to do. Although it does have traffic, crime, and hot weather, Atlanta is developing into a World Class City and has become the New York of the South.

Dude, I agree with you but to a lesser extent. The city of ATL is actually improving. The suburbs of the ATL are becoming refugee camps for all the Section 8 people that have been kicked out of the inner city ATL projects. Just look at the destruction of Clayton County. Clayton County has truly become the hell hole in the past 15 years. The schools are more violent than the streets of Baghdad. The county government and law enforcement are corrupt. Next time you get "cut-off" at the exit ramp, look at the car tags.....sure enough it will say Clayton County. Peace!

No I've never lived there but thanks for the warning. Got a more-than-a-friend to visit whom lives near Atlanta.

On the one hand, I don't think Atlanta is actually as dangerous as people seem to think it is. I stayed with friends in the suburbs for like a week before I moved into the city, and I remember thinking, because of the sensationalist news every night, I almost expected the city to be a war zone. (That said, of course I know crime is a problem -- I live in one of the "nice" areas, and car break-ins are a regular occurence around here)

My main complaint is I think the cost of living is unjustifiably high -- the city is just not that great (nowhere near 'world class'). I believe the city is building its a way up to a major depression -- that is, I don't think the local economy and population growth will support all the new building/expansion that's happening everywhere. Clearly the local resources can't support the city, either.

Of course, for all the people who say 'if it's so terrible why don't you leave' -- I'm here temporarily, and would not consider moving back after I leave.

This is a common complaint,

I live right on the Perimeter and my Jetta was recently broken into by a pro-thief. They used a saw to cut a perfect rectangle in my dashboard to take my GPS and radio plus about 50 CD in a case.

The Church of Scientology just opened a center across the street from me and every Sunday there are cops with M-16's guarding the place from protesters.

On top of that we have water rationing, crack heads and pollution....
