Why is it that people who live in other states, the first state that pops up the in mind is ATLANTA,GA? |
I mean it seems like everybody I meet is from somewhere else, and they just had to come here, C'mon why not SC, FL, TN, NC, or anywhere in the southeast ? most wheather in the southeast is the same eccept FL. They are welcome to come, but danm, why Atlanta out of all the southeast big cities? What's attracting everyone to this place? why not any other big cities in the southeast everythings fairly the same?
I'm not trying to offend anyone. I just want to know why everyone finds Atlanta so ammusing.
what is so great about this place?
please be respectful of your answer; I'm not trying to offend anyone.
thank you Additional Details Sam Bradford, why the hell are you talking about Mike Vick for you danm redneck. that had nothing to do with my question ,F### U ! |

They don't know any better. The whole place smells like a cat's litter box if you ask me. It could be worse, you could live in Phoenix like I do. Even MORE people move here every year than Atlanta. Americans move around a lot. If you lived in Buffalo New York, wouldn't you move too? |

do you want the historical reason that cities like Atlanta are popular or why Atlanta in particular is so popular? I've never been to that city, so here goes my answer to the former Q. Cities in the sunbelt have been growing for several decades because the industrial base of cities like Detroit and many others has eroded and because the weather is milder in the South.
To be more factual, you'd probably find that many other SE cities are growing as well. But since you're in Atlanta, it seems like everyone is going there. Same here in LA and we all wish they'd move to Atlanta instead. |

Well, there's a number of reasons (I am a native Atlantan, BTW--there are a few of us left!).
The key is economic opportunity. That traces way back--Atlanta started as railroad terminus adn then the intersection of several lines-becoming a transportation center following the Civil War. Two other factors: first, during the post-World-War 2 era, Atlanta got a head start on attracting industry. Mainly this was due to a (relatively) liberal racial attitude, and a willingness of most community leaders to reconcile themselves to the social changes for the good of the community. I'm not saying they were saints--but they were ahead of most whites in the south in recognizing that change was inevitable andworking with, rather than against it.
Finally, Atlanta has no natural boundaries--it can (and has) grow in all directions. At this point, that's becoming a major problem--the current drought you've heard about is simply bring the fact home: Atlanta has grown so much it is outstripping the natural resources it needs.
But--one caveat--this growth pattern is NOT unique to Atlanta. a number of other Southern cities--Charlotte, Chapel Hill, Memphis, etc. Have experienced similar changes. Due to its "head start" and role as a transportation center, it's simply the most striking example. |

Atlanta is FULL of HISTORY!!!
Think about it. Gen Sherman burnt the entire city to the ground during the Civil War.
Martin Luther King Jr had many rallies/sitins, etc there.
Atlanta was even a host of the Olympics. |

I think you feel that way because your city is really growing but it's not just your town. It's going on everywhere in the south.. |
