You ought to do a google search for the zoo. I do know that it was one of the first to have animals in simulated natural environments, and they have done a lot of important work on endangered species of not only animals, but plants.
It would be best to learn how to do your own research instead of depending on others. You will be smarter and able to function better in your adult life if you become less dependent. |

honestly, you have to compare it to other zoo's to really see how special it is. I asked that question once. If you look at the exhibits at most zoo's they look like, well prisons. San Diego was the fist zoo to make the enclosures look like the animals natural setting. Its not just a cage with bars. The whole zoo is amazing, built on hill sides and winding through the amazing balboa park.
By the way, there are no dolphins or Shamu at san diego zoo, thats sea world. |

It's famous because you don't have to view the animals through bars or cages. They have put wide, deep trenches between the animals habitats and the "pipe-like" barrier that keeps people from falling in the trench. You can lean on them or rest your arms on. Its very restful to walk through and there are birds flying loose. It is unique. |

Don't know why it is famous but right now the animals are safe in their "homes" while the rest of San Diego burns. The animals at the Animal Park are safe as well.
That should say something about the care the animals in San Diego receive in our city. |

The San Diego Zoo is internationally famous for its captive breeding programs of endangered and exotic species. It is a beautiful zoo with it's natural habitats from desert to rain forest. Last time I was there the zebra were doing their mating rituals. Be sure to visit when you are in the area. |
