Sugar cane was one of the biggest industries in Hawaii's past. Throughout it's history, many waves of migrant workers were brought to the islands as a source of cheap manual labor. The Japanese people were one of the first waves of migrant workers brought for this purpose. That is why, many Japanese families date back many generations in Hawaii. In addition, due to the large US cultural influence in Japan, Hawaii is also one of the top tourist destinations for Japanese nationals. |

Visiting or living?
Visiting because we're the leading tourist destination for Japan....
Living because the Japanese came over for the sugar plantation rush and never left.
Hope that helps..... |

Maybe they enjoy it there?? I am not Japanese, I am of Irish, Scottish, English, and Cherokee Indian descent, but I have been to Hawaii six times, and love it there! There is lots to see things to do, love the island of Oahu and its peoples!!
Maybe some live there, or visiting there, it is welcomed to every race, color, and creed.

Back in the mid to late 1800s, tens of thousands of us came to Hawaii in search of a better life. At that time, Japan was undergoing major politcal and social changes (the Meiji Restoration), some of which left many Japanese farmers and fishermen in crappy situations. Hawaii's growing sugar and pineapple industries offered a better and richer lifestyle.
As they say, the rest is history. We worked hard, we held true to our family values, we got rich, and we never left.
To some of you: be careful not to fall into the trap of ignorance. Go back to the countries we came from? Many of us have never even seen our home country...our families have been here over a 100 years. If we leave, "your country's" economy dries up. |

December 7, 1941 - The Japanese attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor by dropping bombshells filled with native Japanese in it. These Japanese landed on the island, then began to breed with its natives. Taking over the island over a large period of time was the Japanese revenge plot this entire time. |
