Will $700 be enough spending money for a 2 week holiday in florida?

We are going on holiday to Florida in 16 days time.
We are taking $700 with us. This is for a family of 3 (2 adults and a 13 month old baby) for 2 weeks.
The money is mainly for our food and drinks. We wont be buying any souvenirs or clothes etc as we don't think we'll have enough money.
Is food relatively cheap in Florida compared with the UK? We would like to eat out a lot whilst there.

Thanks

(We are buying our disney tickets separately so not included in the $700)

We ae staying in a villa in Orlando. We will buy some groceries when we get their so that we can eat breakfast at the villa each morning and also bring packed lunched most days.
Ok so we wont eat out at a retuarant every single evening but do you think $700 is enough to eat out a few times each week and the rest will have to be fast food.

It's definitely going to be cheaper to buy food and cook it yourself. (Breakfast can be super cheap if you buy a couple boxes of cereal and a gallon of milk.) That's $350 a week and that would buy enough groceries for more than twice as many people. However, if you are realistic you will realize that no one is going to go on vacation for two weeks and cook every meal in.

If you honestly think you will eat breakfast in every day and pack your own lunch every day I still think you may run very tight on money. Many dinners for 2 will run more than $50, which means at least two to three times per week (how much you say you will eat dinner out) will take more than your entire day's budget.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but it will take careful planning and strict budgeting. There is no way that you can buy Sea World and Universal tickets with that $700 and still have enough money to eat, though.

If you're buying breakfast, lunch and dinner I think that's a bit tight. On a budget I would assume (in my opinion based on experience) you'll spend £30 each (just the adults of course) a day on food and drinks which would be more like $1000 dollars in total, obviously if you don't intend to eat out for all meals, everyday of the holiday then you can lower that. That's bearing in mind that it's cheaper to eat out over there too.

$700 in two weeks is not enough. $50 a day is not reasonable for 2. Let's just say a Denny's breakfast for two (mom sharing with baby) should run you about $35. Lunch pretty much same unless you go Fast food which would then be $14 for both excluding the baby ever eating. It's really not a reasonable amount for such a long vacation. Plan for $900.

Sorry!

You do know that, that will only leave you $50.00 a day right and if anything where to come up you'd be screwed. Also that is about $16.00 per meal. I really don't think you'll be able to eat anywhere else but fast food. Or you could maybe buy lunch meat, bread and condiments for your lunches. That sounds like it may be cheaper( and you can have a little picnic). Then you maybe able to have a nice sit down dinner.

I would probably bring a bit more money.
Don't eat out every night. It will kill your funds. Make as many meals as you can - especially because you are staying at a villa. Make your own breakfast and pack lunches when going to the parks. Essentially, the only meal you want to eat out is dinner.
Try to find restaurants where "kids eat free" because you have your 13 month old(although they probably won't eat much). There are also lots of buffets and cheap restaurants in Orlando.
Buy your groceries at the Wal Mart Supercenter instead of Publix. I find groceries more expensive in the States (I live in Canada)
Make as much food as you can - maybe suggest splitting the cost of groceries with the other people you are going with if your staying in the same house.
Another tip - I wouldn't eat out every night because you're going to feel like crap when you comeback. Serving sizes in the US are much bigger than in Canada, and that probably applies to UK as well. Try splitting meals when you eat out instead of buying 2... or if you do bring home the leftovers and heat it up the next day for lunch!
Have a nice trip!

I don't think it will be near enough money. below site has all disney menus and prices.
to leave the park and go somewhere else to eat is possible, but will really take up a lot of time out of your day.

I think you can do it. Just make sure that when you go grocery shopping that you don't go to Goodings that's close by Downtown Disney. They are more expensive than anywhere else because they are so close. Also, consider having your groceries delivered to your villa once you arrive. A good grocery delivery place seems to be Gardengrocer.com.

Take note that the cost for the entree at most sit down places is about $25, then you have any extras with that. But there are plenty of nice fast service places you can eat that are not just burger and fries, those you can usually spend around $12.

Just be frugal, buy a bottle of water and keep refilling it at the fountains. But try to bring a powdered flavoring for the water (or buy in US if you don't have them there), the water in FL tastes bad. You can also get a glass of ice water any any restaurant there.

I've brought packed lunches to the park before and they worked fine for us. Breakfast in the parks is expensive and your choices tend to be limited to sweet rolls, better to eat at your villa.

Also, you can go to allears.net to check out the dining section. That will give you pricng for all of the restaurants there.

Good luck.

Freeeeezing !
Hey.....

Im only back from Orlando today...YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE IT !!!

Anyway the currency took us a while to get used too : like dimes etc...
It gets abit confusing at first.

I thought the food wasn't that cheap compared to the UK....For 4 people to eat basic fries , burger and drink cost us $45.00....seems big in english money..

Remember they TAX EVERYTHING ...even Pepsi ! If you wanna get into proper restaurants be careful...

Also you should really go to Universal and Sea World : ITS SOOO WORTH IT !! i had a disney flex ticket..so got into all those places.

The shopping is cheap i would say..there is loads of Publix supermarkets - in Orlando they are very cheap also Walgreen's.

We brought $2000 spending money with us...but this was for 4 adults..so i think you will be fine.

I think you're cutting it a bit fine there Grimbo, it's shiit being skint isn't it. you should start a "give grimbo some bucks" campaign, I'd put a few dollars in to start you off.

I live in Orlando (near Disney World) and when my family goes out to eat we usually spend around 70$-100$. There are four people in my family and two of us are teenagers so it may be more expensive than just two adults and a baby. I would say 700$ is plenty of money for your family for two weeks.

I think it will be enough if you spend wisely.

Just avoid snack foods ( bring your own ) because they charge outreageous amounts....probably $4.00 for a single scoop icecream cone.

Have fun!!!

That will be tight. I usually advise people to plan on $50 a person per day, just for food, and that's if you stick to the cheap places and don't do anything fancy. Around the parks, about $10 a person per meal is about the cheapest you can do. Assuming you buy a drink/water and a snack in the parks, too, it's easy to spend $50.

If you go buy cereal/breakfast foods and eat your breakfast at your villa, you can save a lot of money. We always do this when we go, and it's way cheaper than going out for breakfast.

And if you bring your lunch, obviously you will save more money. Just remember that you cannot bring anything that will spoil and you will have to lug around whatever you bring.

You might be all right. Just be responsible with it.

Surveyor
I just came back from Miami. Food there is fairly expensive when shopping in supermarkets over there but you say you will be eating out, that can be $15-35 a head. I would say you have quite a lot for food, I mean you properly will eat breakfast at the hotel. You should have enough left for other things, you'll only use like $300 at most.

If you are looking for good hotel deals, FirmBooking.com offers very competitive rates.
