Will the last person out of Detroit please turn off the lights?

How long before the last person with brains, money and a future leaves that dump called Detroit and its lousy suburbs?

I work in automotive industry. Many people are leaving Detroit and Metro because of bad job market. Some are staying, including myself.

Detroit will bounce back as will automotive industry. And when it will, people will come back to the city. It is a cycle that happens everywhere.

I guess I will stay in my house on the lake in "lousy" suburbs. Sure Detroit is no New York or Chicago. But we do have city scale fun without big city hustle. People have history and traditions here, we worked for automotive for generations and take pride in what we do.

To answer your question. Some of us still have faith in what we do. But if Detroit falls, it will echo across the country. Our success as a country owes part of it to Detroit, blue color bastard son, who goes to work every morning, loosing blood to outsourcing and import competition.

Hey, I work from home so the job market isn't so important, and those fancy houses in Grosse Point are starting to look pretty good! With prices in Detroit so low, I think I could afford a mansion! I'm ready to trade for my overpriced home in Florida, any takers?.

Besides the job market and downtown, why leave? I've visited family lots of times in Detroit, and the outlying suburbs are nice!

First off your a freakin' @sshole! No I don't live in Detroit but I grew up growing there and visting places and I have friends that live there. You probably are some stuck up snobby @sshole that never worked for anything. Detroits not a dump, we have boutiques, bars, resturants, quality casinos, 5 star hotels, awesome museums, festivals, fairs, parades, state of the art stadiums and fields. We may not be the cleanest or prettiest place in the States but we are worth something.

Also the lousy subburbs, what! The 2004 Ryder Cup was held in Detroits "lousy suburbs", one Detroits "lousy" suburbs is consistenly 1 out of 5 wealthest cites in america. Also this "lousy" suburb will be holding the 2008 PGA Championships.
The International Academy was named # 1 in Time magazines top schools in America in 2003 and was 2nd in 2004 and 2005. take a look at the website below.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloomfield_Hills,_Michigan

so maybe now you should rethink your opinion of Detroit and it's "Lousy"

Yes, Detroit is not the nicest place to live. BUT every state has that ONE city that is just the same, if not worse. And just to add....THE SUBURBS OF DETROIT ARE NOT LOUSY. Assumption breeds ignorance...

Maybe you should try St. Louis- they did beat us out on the most dangerous cities! Everyone has complaints about where they live, yes i hate the weather, but Detroit and the suburbs are not so bad.....

My it certainly looks like money can't buy intelligence, wit, common courtesy, or anything close to a decent personality.

She really did nail it on the head when she said you're nothing more then a rich boy who's never had to work in his life. You've lived in Bloomfield Hills for 10 years and now own a company. Did mommy or daddy buy that for you?

Funny thing I've been to many cities and lived in two before coming to the Detroit area. It's just like every other city and suburbs.

What is your issue with Detroit and its suburbs anyway? Every single question you take great enjoyment out of blasting this lousy city and it's lousy suburbs. Maybe you should try to get over whatever issue you seem to have with this city.

I find it ironic you stated in which is the worst state question... "Plus people are bitter about how nasty things are and will certainly take their frustrations out on you."

You seem to be using these boards to do that about how much you hate Detroit.

Oh about Wayne state... it's amazing how someone of your astounding intellect could come up with this.
"ZERO. Wayne State is a retard commuer school. Go some place else, unless of course you are a retard also."

Do us all a favor and find some other place to spew your negativity.

The lights in Detroit, Flint and Windsor have been shut off!

The only reason why the region is still populated is because they can't navigate through the dark.

I heard they are building a casino in Detroit and across in Windsor, ON so that might draw some people back?

Oh yeah, Baltimore aint so great either!

Munkee – to answer your questions:

“You probably are some stuck up snobby @sshole that never worked for anything.” – NOPE, I own a multimillion dollar finance company, try again.

"Detroits not a dump, we have boutiques, bars, resturants, quality casinos, 5 star hotels, awesome museums, festivals, fairs, parades, state of the art stadiums and fields." – WOW where to begin. Boutiques – no. Bars and restaurants (nice misspelling there bonehead) – so does every single city in America. 5 star hotels – HA HA that is a laugh. You can count them on one hand and still have fingers left over. The museums are OK, I will give you that. The festivals are a complete JOKE, who is willing to risk their life to see fireworks or junk like that? The state fair, good perhaps 40 years ago, now just a trumped up carnival, parades (huh?). As far as the “state of the art stadiums” the tax payers were bilked out of billions to build those stadiums, how dumb are all of you. And the “buy off” was a Super Bowl and an All Star game, wow that was sure worth it. p.s. just about all cities are building "state of the art" stadiums now.

"We may not be the cleanest or prettiest place in the States but we are worth something." – NO, Detroit is a total dump and worthless, have you EVER been to or lived in any other city, 99.999% of all major cities whip Detroit in every single way.

"Also the lousy subburbs, what! The 2004 Ryder Cup was held in Detroits "lousy suburbs", one Detroits "lousy" suburbs is consistenly 1 out of 5 wealthest cites in america. Also this "lousy" suburb will be holding the 2008 PGA Championships." – I lived in that “wealthy city” (Bloomfield Hills) for 10 years, over priced, over taxed and over rated. The PGA plays in Milwaukee also and other less desirable areas, so they try to spread it around a bit. I have been to Oakland Hills several times, we have good friends that belong there, it is OK at best.

"The International Academy was named # 1 in Time magazines top schools in America in 2003 and was 2nd in 2004 and 2005." – Never heard of it and my kids went to the top private school in the area, it was not International Academy either. DCDS if that means anything to you.

Move to any coast and live there, you will be amazed at what you have been missing and what you were willing to put up with. My time in Detroit only made me appreciate every place else.
