Understand the reality of your dream.
The odds are stacked against you.
I assume you don't have money. Finding a job without an education or experience will be tough. Finding a job where you can support yourself will be tougher. The economy is week, and the cost of living is sky high.
Getting a band together is great, I encourage it. But realized that may be as far as you will go with it.
Please, please Research you plans. And don't move out here without any money, as you will end up sleeping in your car and pan-handling for gas money to get back home. |

Well you need a drivers license to live in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles is not cheap either and finding a job in the state of California is going to be pretty difficult.
If you expect to make it with a minimum wage, you're dreaming!
Just stay where you are right now or move to Texas. |

You can find that in any city. Cali is really diverse but don't expect to get a job like that. You'll find more fun in the cities near the beaches, the more industrialized sites so yeah expect to see more surfers than usual. It's great I walk around in shorts and flipflops all the time it's the norm here and real comfortable. |

There are no places in California where jobs are plentiful. And you do need to drive to live here, except maybe for the city of San Francisco. However, you will not be able to afford to live there.
Basically, do not come here unless you have a job lined up. And right now they are only hiring people here with degrees in the sciences, engineering or medicine. |

Perhaps they don't teach math where you go to school. Let's do the math, shall we?
Coming to Socal out of HS, you'll make minimum wage, which is currently $8 per hour. If you are lucky enough to get 40 hours per week, that's 320 per week, or $1280 gross per month. And that's BEFORE taxes. Take home is probably $910.
Now it's a hard economic fact that you should spend around 1/3 of your salary on rent or mortgage. One third of $910 is about $300, which is what you can afford.
However, the average rent for a studio/bachelor/single apartment is about $1000, and a 1BR is about $1200. In order to afford that, you need to make at least $3000 per month.
Looks like you're a little short.
Dang, WoE was completely right, and someone gave him a TD. Hey, it wasn't me! I tried to balance things out. |

You don't say where your from or your background. If it's solely for music there are certainly many other music cities.
Minneapolis surprisingly has a great music scene, so does Chicago and even Milwaukee. Memphis has a great music scene too.
I'm from Chicago had a few buddies move out to Cali. All were kind of surprised said it's a whole different world, not in a bad way just that people are much different and totally different mindset and set of values there than in chicago.
California is also pretty expensive, my one friend was paying like 1500 for a two bedroom in San Jose, nto an especially cool area and nothing fancy for the apt. |

The economy is so poor now that you have to have a job lined up before you get here. Then there are the prices of things, getting a car and then rent. I take it as an 18 year old you are thinking about a min. wage job? And you claim you are not poor? hum? |

Go to a little town out side of like san diego. It will be cheaper then living in the city itself. Go to like vista or somewhere near there. |

the weather is warm and not ever really hot- the wind from the ocean takes the humidity out
there is always something to do- and its easy to get into club/bars and drink when you are underage....
lots of people just dont limit yourself to only certian tyes of people-
hollywood/ santa monica are awesome area to live. |

stay where you are .. getting a band together is rather easy but performing is another.. In order to make it you really need a hook. A drivers license or a marketable skill wouldn't hurt either. Cali life is rather expensive and good jobs are scarce at best.. So I say stay where you are. |

The best place for you to live is in anywhere in Hollywood. A lot of people are always looking for band mates out there. I live about 5 miles north of Hollywood you would like it. There is a lot of good people out there. Plus its not that expensive. |
