never been to LA, but I can assure you that NYC doesn't smell like piss. I was there over a week during a Christmas vacation. I stayed at the W off of Broadway near Times Square. I took the subway all over, walked around at all hours of the day and night. It was nice. It snowed and watching the drifts float down the empty streets at 2 a.m. was beautiful. There is tons of stuff to do, and tons of stuff to buy.
I am sure LA is similar. both have lots of traffic, so the tendancy of overall bad air quality. Both have public transportation, but NYC has a more established and larger system. Both have a high cost of living. Both have big conventions for cars and I think anime/etc. club scenes, etc.
LA has a nice beach close by. I believe there are theme parks close by. I really don't know much so ...
I prefer NYC now because I have been there, but, I have always wanted to go to California, but not necessarily LA. I might want to go to Seattle before LA. |

LA no doubt. LA doesn't smell like urine all over the place. The suburbs are nice and you are close to city centers, without the problems. |

I'd rather live in a concrete pipe in Oklahoma than either NY or LA. |

Not sure I'd like to live in either. New York gets too cold in winter for my liking. I don't want to live in an earthquake zone either so Los Angeles would be out. |

Since you didn't specify NYC as opposed to New York state, I'll go with rural upstate New York. |
