Vietnam is the in place to visit right now. If you start in Hanoi make sure to take the night train to Sapa and stay at the Mountain View Hotel. (Great views and inexpensive) It could be the highlight of your trip. Take the 2 day tour to Halong Bay. Very nice. Then start south bound. I firmly believe that Hoi An is the best place to visit in Vietnam. The ancient town is a World Heritage city and absolutely beautiful. The beach is white sand and 40 kilometers long. A great place to relax and eat great food. The Mango Rooms is noted as one of the best restaurants in Vietnam. The Sleepy Gecko has bike tours that are just amazing. So my overall vote of a place to visit in Vietnam is Hoi An.
Vietnam is really inexpensive. Hotels cost about $10 a night. Of course you can pay much more if you have the budget. You can find beer at less than 15 cents a glass. The people are wonderful.
Pass on Nha Trang unless you like multi story buildings on the beach although many people love the area and the Diving is said to be some of the best in the country. Dalat is great , if a bit corny, and cool during the hot summer months. Saigon is always and experience.
Phu Quoc is beautiful but the pollution was pretty bad. Parts were very nice though. The Mekong is great with lots of things to see but you can do it in a couple of days. You are going to have a great time. I went around the world to many different countries. I have been on the road for over two years. I like Hoi An. It’s the best. |

Nha Trang is a very nice place to visit, but it can be seen as a bit sleepy. There are day trips and beaches to visit, but when I was there last December, there was not a ton of nightlife to speak of.
Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) is a good jumping off point, as there is much that can be done in the way of day trips. Plus there is a bit more nightlife as it is a bigger city. |

More people would understand you better becuase in Saigon, many tourists go there, so many of the people know a little bit of English.
The scenes in Saigon are beautiful, especially in the night.
The whole city is lighted up and so many people are around.
If you love to shop, you will love it in Saigon.
There are so many malls and so many things to buy
-designer bags
-clothes
-food
-jewelery
-etc.
for such a great price.
there's also many hotels, restaurants, in Saigon.
I recently went to Vietnam in June and it was amazing.
I know you'll have the greatest time :] |

I have been to Vietnam 3 times in the past year, and though I heartily recommend Nha Trang, it can be a little inconvenient to get to. You need to take either an overnight train from Ho Chi Minh City (aka Saigon) , or a 28 hour train from Hanoi (as I dumbly did).
All said and done I would recommend Hanoi, with a 2 day tour to Ha Long Bay, which you can book through your hotel or any local tour agency while you're there.
I would recommend the Hanoi Elegance Hotel. They have 3 branches, called Elegance I, II and III respectively. The larger the number, the higher the cost, because they're newer. I've stayed in II and III and I can say they're great, though I can't vouch for Elegance I. |

I think that if you would prefer to spend your holiday on beach or you don't like the cold weather, the Nha Trang, Mui Ne or Phu Quoc are some of most famous places. If you want to see the heritage landscapes in Vietnam, i recommend 5days holiday in the North where you can visit Halong bay, Hanoi city, or Ninh Binh. |
