Any reviews about the Sinh Cafe package tours in Vietnam and Cambodia?
My friends and I are planning to avail of their open bus tours and package tours when we go to Cambodia and Vietnam in April. Sinh Cafe (www.sinhcafevn.com) is asking us to write 50% downpayment to a bank in Australia. Has anyone experienced this? Would you recommend Sinh Cafe in Vietnam?
D, please don't book before you get here. The quality of the various 'sinh cafe' services tends to vary greatly. I can recommend you travel with them but I would not recommend a 50% down payment! If you give them any money up front before you enter the country you are basically at their mercy! You won't have any trouble booking tours at the office and you can find out for yourself what the buses are like and what other travelers you run into have to say. There are Sinh cafe offices ALL over the backpacker districts in the cities and it pays to shop around for decent prices! It's kind of crazy how much some of the tours vary in price for the exact same services! (ahem) same goes for accomodation, by the way!!!

I have used Sinh Cafe numerous times and never had any problem . However i have always booked whilst in Vietnam and paid at the office . If you have doubts you can book up when you get there and you would probably get a better deal anyhow .

as "stevie" suggests you might be better off booking when you get in county..[MANY diffrent booking offices and options..] thats certainly do-able and gives you the opportunity to rethink your plans.. the tours are ok but you can with little effort do it all on your own

No, I've used Sinh Cafe alot, and always just paid in their office. There's a bunch of other "Cafe" companies that are pretty much the same. Here's a hint: Never stay at the hotel the bus stops at. Service is usually worse, the rooms are dirtier, and somtimes (like in Dalat) more expensive. If you walk up the street you can usually find another cleaner hotel with much friendlier service.

There are many Sinh Cafes in Vietnam.I think the one and only original Sinh Cafe will forever remain a mystery in Vietnam as nearly all Sinh Cafe operators which you'll encounter in Vietnam claims they are the original ones. However, i just came back from my Hanoi trip last February 2009. I booked a Halong Bay 2D1N trip in one of the Sinh Cafe when i was looking for a tour operator in Hanoi. You can contact or visit my friend's blog "Motormouth From Ipoh" or his link "www.j2kfm.blogspot.com" on more of Hanoi experiences and pictures.

I have always booked my trips with Sinh Cafe in Vietnam. I have used them on 3 trips in the past 6 years. The trips are no-frills but a great way to see the country. I have used them for day trips only and been very happy. Day tours do not generally fill up more than 1 day in advance, so there is really no need to book ahead. You'll have flexibilty in your schedule if you wait, which can be nice. I recommend the Mekong Delta Day tour if you are in Ho Chi Minh.
In Cambodia, you may just want to hire a driver for the day through your hotel. It's not too expensive and well worth the convenience. Spend lots of time at Angkor Wat!
