Hello SJ,

I am from India (live in USA) and about to move to Vietnam. I was there last year. It is a nice country (as long as you keep it to your self and do not mess with authority). People are nice and polite. I did not see any discrimination but I do know few friends who ask questions which tells me they are scarred of the stories they hear about India. For example girls are burned and hard not treated right (not that other places don't have this problem other than burning) so they have some bad feelings and only those who know this half information. Laws are changed in India and things are very different but stories are still what they are and that is what people know mostly the old stuff that is and based on that they have made impressions.

Indian people in Vietnam are also seen as smart people (even though he/she is the worst case stupid) and they do relate to them because of economical condition etc.

Contact me because my case is like your case (I am moving for my girl). Maybe we can become friends and our women can enjoy their time together. I do not believe in mob meetings and still like to go out and meet people who are totally different than I am but still it will give our women some common ground to talk about.

Feel free to contact me, I will wait.

Vietnamese people don't discriminate any other race. But because you are different, they may do something that you don't like, like staring at you or something.
You know, there are many races in the U.S. Therefore, it's nothing special to see people who doesn't look like you. But most people in Vietnam are Vietnamese, so when they see an Indian, or American, Russian, Mexican... who doesn't look like them, they are curious.
Don't mind.

I am a Vietnamese woman (originally from Ho Chi Minh City) who is married to a man who is of Asian Indian background (born in the USA). We now live in the USA. We have been married for 4 years (and we got married under Vietnam Marriage Laws).

My husband and I have never experienced racism or related in Vietnam, and we travel frequently to Vietnam. Usually we get people who are curious about my husband's background, but never any discrimination.

Many Vietnamese actually hold those of Indian background in high regard. Most of the Vietnamese we encountered in Ho Chi Minh City have no problems, but they are curious about India and the culture of India (mainly because they do not know much about India).

No, your friends's opinion is almost wrong. I am aslo a Vietnamese. We welcome all people. You can see that there are lots of foreign people to live and work in my country with different skins. If you don't believe, you can try to take a trip to there. Addition, My english teacher is also black skin, but we all love him so much.

nguyenthanhtungtinbk
No, there is no racism here.

vietnamvisaservice
we are colors people, do not care about your skin. black and white not important. some people to be proud that they have some thing ... like blond hair... but they have an empty brain . I believe that many people think the same with me

Shadow Zero
No, but it may be because you're different, but then again that can happen anywhere in the world where the "different" person gets criticism
