Are you Vietnamese American or just Vietnamese ?

I came to the US almost 30 years ago. I became American citizen and graduated with a MA degree with honor . I have no problem adjusting to this society but somehow I still prefer to identify myself as Vietnamese rather than Vietnamese American. I know some people do not have any problem identify as such but to me I never see myself as American.
I love Vietnam. I love so many things of being Vietnamese. I love our culture. I love the fact that we have a solid family foundation where young people respect the elderly and family has levels between older sisters, brothers and younger siblings. Something that you don't find in this country. I love Vietnamese music because it has meanings. I love the fact that Vietnamese men do not treat Vietnamese women like an object but the utmost respect because she is the mother of his children. When you speak with another Vietnamese person, whether you know the person or not, you always refer to them either bác, cô, chị, chú, anh, em etc..
Additional Details
Do you consider yourself as Vietnamese American or Vietnamese?

Há» là nạn nhân chỉ bởi vì xã há»™i, lối giáo dục ngừoi phụ nữ lúc bấy giá». Trao thân gá»i phận nhầm vào 1 ngừoi đàn ông đối xá» tệ bạc vá»›i há» phải chăng chính là lá»—i của những ngừoi phụ nữ ấy? Xã há»™i đổi thay, và ngừoi phụ nữ Việt Nam bây giỠđã khác, há» có quyá»n lá»±a chá»n cách sống của há»: đảm Ä‘ang, buông thả, đó là do há» lá»±a chá»n.
"but this society, no matter what you do, when you turn your back, they still see you as Vietnamese"
>> chị đã trở vỠthăm Việt Nam chưa?
no matter what you do, when you turn your back, Vietnamese people still see you as an Vietnamese American
giống như em đã Ä‘á»c 1 bài viết, có câu
too American to be a real Vietnamese

I can only answer for my wife. She considers herself a Vietnamese Amerian. She loves both countries and all that both have given to her. Both countries have so much.

We will be back in Vietnam in 5 days for a month. If we didn't have a young daughter in school we would spend more time in Vietnam. Cheers.

it stems from if a person respects themselves; if they do, they can respect people around them; unlike in the US, where people struggle to understand themselves, people in or from Vietnam know who they are and respect not only themselves, but family as well

Be Romanian when you are in Rome.Memories are always pleasing and you can't live in Vietnam for ever. If you love Vietnam's culture follow the same thing in US too.
Why you still prefer to stay in US even though the US smashed Vietnam for many years ?
