Attractions in Ho chi minh City? |
Hi ~~
Need your advise on some issues here.
I am planning a trip to Ho Chi Minh City and due to time constraint, i will only be touring in the city.
Below is a list of attractions i've gotten from the vietnam tourism website. May i ask which of the listed attractions is a "Must-see" and which can i pass due to time constraint?
War Remnants Museum
Viet Nam Historical Museum
Ho Chi Minh Museum
Reunification Palace
Cu Chi Tunnels
Notre Dame Cathedral
Ben Thanh Market
Vinh Nghiem Pagoda
Giac Lam Pagoda
Can Gio Mangrove Forest
Thien Hau Temple
Thanks in advance! Additional Details To Nano,
Ya... that's true. I feel that i am only truly interested in Cu Chi tunnel.
I'd love to make a trip to Hue but i am really tight on the number of days i have. Maybe next time!
To Ana:
Can i cover them all in one day? How do i travel from place to place?
Should i hire a taxi for the day or what other suggestions do you have? |

War Remnants Museum, Viet Nam Historical Museum, Ho Chi Minh Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Ben Thanh Market, Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, Giac Lam Pagoda. You can probably visit all in one day
Cu Chi Tunnels is abit far from downtown and takes time to get around so it would take you half a day or more
Reunification Palace is cool, but dont forget to check the opening hours to make a better schedule.
They are all cool, no such things like bias or discrimination. Just pay abit attention on your own belonging in case their is pick pocket
Have fun
---------------
For the above list of attractions and whatever it is that might pop up during the trip that you would find interesting, 2 days would be enough ( 1 day seems abit rushing to me).
About transportation, you may contact with a hotel where you stay, see if they provide any and how much it's gonna cost for a whole day. If you have to take a taxi, better pick Vinataxi (yellow ones - most of foreigners trust this - and if there is any prolems you can always trace it out and make it clear... lol)...
In case you wanna go to Hue, spend 1 day and a half in Saigon and fly to Hue after (takes about 1 day for you to see it all ... you know, all the ancient stuff haha) |

Nano, you can't compare Vietnam with the US. We have different culture and history altogether. I see you id yourself as born and raised in Vietnam, you may want to change your writing style because it's not proper English. That embarrassing to all Vietnamese.
Back to my suggestions. Historical sites are always fascinating. You can learn more about Vietnam that you can't learn anywhere else. Hue one time was the capital under the Nguyen Dynasty. If you have time, Dalat is another place that you can go. Dalat is one of the cities that didn't touch much by the war. There, you can find president Ngo Dinh Diem's resident before he was assassinated by the support of the US. It's a quiet city with so many beautiful scenery if you're interest in history, you can certainly find it there. |
|

Who wants to know
 |
It depends on what your interests are. Personally I don't like war so I probably wouldn't want to see war museum. It brought back so much pain to see people dying especially Vietnamese people. Historical sites would be nice. You can learn so much about our ancient history and our culture.
It's absurd to compare Vietnam and the US. There are 2 different countries with 2 different backgrounds. We've been around for 4000 years. There are so much that you can see what our ancestors had to go through to maintain our culture and heritage. It's not always the material things that identify who you are. At least we have a culture where people care about each other, united and fight for what we all believe.
As much as I don't like the communist ideology. I must say I admire Ho Chi Minh. He set an example for his people and live among them. He didn't live in palaces when his people scarified their lives in the jungles. Perhaps you might want to see Ho Chi Minh museum. I would. |

I'd skip SaiGon and go straight to Hue. That is what I will be doing in 25 days. Hue is so beautiful and so friendly. A wonderful place to watch the world go by.
Out of the list you have I'd skip all the museums. Go to the makets and Pagoda's.
Cheers |

u no those war and ho chi minh sites or any stuff that have to do wit them, dont go cuz communism really exxagerate their heroes and themselves and wutever they've done. except "Cu Chi tunnel" u gotta see in order to believe how Vietcong could have driven Americans crazy. sum of all, try ur best not to waste time on wutever communism is praising.
And I'd recommend you see anything with culture, history, like those pagoda, temples, forest.
I dont think Ho Chi Minh city really has anything fascinating. it there were any, it would have gone cuz of the war. if there is, its jus some modern stuff like theme park. but those stuff there cant never compare to the stuff here in US so dont go cuz its jus waste of time. but there are two parks called "Dam Sen" and "Suoi Tien" its pretty big and very asian stuff. their like 30 min drive or so away from the city. i went there once when i was 12 or somthing lol, long time ago.
if u go to VN, i'd recommend u go to ancient sites such as Hue or somthing sites in the North. Go to the country side too. despite mosquitoes, ull find urself reallly relax there cuz its real peaceful. and ull be admired by the way of life of the countryside. |
