First thing. Yes it's possible if you go to the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi. BUT you must allow a week for processing. They will give you a one month visa for tourism. If you are still in China go to the local Public Security Bureau to see if you can get your current visa extended. This is sometimes possible but you might need a Chinese friend to interpret. Dont forget you will also (probab ly) need a visa for Vietnam.
