Can I do Halong Bay on a day trip from Hanoi, Viet Nam?

I only have 3 days there but I could extend to 4 if I have to. Would that be enough time to see the city and Halong bay?

This is plenty of time. Tours to Halong Bay are either one, two or three days long (some longer).

The one day tour can seem a bit rushed as it's approx. 3 1/2hrs from Hanoi.

The 2 day (1 night) tour is great. Most tours leave around 8am and return midday / mid afternoon the next day Besure sure to sleep on the boat! Leaving you plenty of time to see Hanoi!

The 3 day (2 night) generally have 1 night on the boat and one night in Cat Ba Island.

Tours to Halong Bay can be easily booked in Hanoi's Old Quarter at any Travel Agent. Enjoy!

You can see Hanoi in 1/2 day, 1 day or 02 days. You can travel to Ha Long Bay and return to Hanoi on the same day. So with 03 days, it's quite enough to visit Hanoi and Ha Long Bay. You can visit http://www.paradissa.com or http://www.adventuregreen.com for further information on day trips from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay.

absolutly, you can book at almost any hotel or travel agency in the city. they will take care of everything. transportation , food, guide etc., just bring your camera. "old town" ha noi [pho cuu] can be seen in one afternoon. the ha long tour is a long day trip.
visiting ho chi minh tomb..can be imposible sometimes becase of crowds and long lines.. i'd avoid that w/ only 3 days.. and unless your looking for a good place to take a nap, avoid the water puppets....

Screw the tours and their guides. Vietnam is safe! Hire a cab driver and go to Ha Long. Once you are there you can hire someone to show you around without the tour guides schedule and kick backs from the contracted businesses they would take you to. Could probably just as easily meet a nice girl in a coffee shop that would be more than willing to go with you and show you.

Of course you will be able to visit HaLong Bay on your holiday. You can get a one day tour for around $25. It will include picking you up from your hotel, ride in a/c mini bus, ticket on excursion boat on the bay, free seafood lunch on boat and your trip back to Hanoi. Easy, fun and exciting. Take lots of picture and enjoy your trip. Cheers

You people must stop butchering the Vietnamese language after you butchered yours. Vietnamese is a mono-syllabic language. Keep that in mind. There is no Hanoi but Ha Noi, no Halong but Ha Long, no Saigon, but Sai Gon...Got that? And there is no Vietnam but Viet Nam.
