A couple of years ago I was returning to Hanoi (or trying to) with the return portion of my round-trip ticket, and the person at the ticket counter, in the US, refused to give me a seat and boarding pass because I did not have the return ticket to go OUT of Vietnam, that is required by Vietnam before someone can go there. I asked to see a supervisor, who allowed that as I lived in Vietnam, had the necessary visa, they could issue me a seat assignment and boarding pass. I had been back and forth numerous times before and after that, without problems, but did have this happen once.

why not...???? i do that all the times... i live in the US im vietnamese i go back there a lot...bc i dont know when i would be back.. so one way air tickets... but it get reallly expensives... but you need to make sure that you have the right visa for your stay( on how long do you tend to stay) the max is like 6 months...
