..you apply for a visa and see...i'm guessing if your criminal record is not in vn they wont know about it..ive met some pretty shady [european] characters in vn , i wouldnt at all be surprised if some had records..

Yes, Unless you are a real high profile case there will be no problems. I guarantee this. The Viet Govt. does not have enough money to be running international background checks on everyone that comes into the country. I know many people with records. This is the same on an international level. There are almost NO countries in the world that do past history back ground checks. it would totally screw up the airports etc with huge lines and imagine the problems with returning people to their various country's.
