In general, the answer is YES.
People often write some emails in Vietnamese without accent marks. |

Có thực mới vực được đạo
It is a saying. It can mean that the necessary of life has to be fulfilled first before one can think of the spiritual being. Or it can mean that you have to practice what you preach. |

depend on the content of the text. If they understand the content, they can know what the word is |

Absolutely!
But sometimes, in a short text, they can get confused with a word means in one way but in a total different way if we remove the accent marks. In a long text, they can base on the meaning of the whole text to figure it out.
Not all Vietnamese can understand though. Some Vietnamese who weren't born in Vietnam can speak Vietnamese but cannot read and write. (I've seen a lot.) And even those who were born in Vietnam cannot understand if a non-accent text goes with a bunch of misspellings. |

It depends on what the words are because
there's co
co^
co/
co
co.
and more so it depends on the words, but I can sorta understand the point of the words.
There's also 2 kinds of Vietnamese.
The people in the north talk a little differently that the people in the south. |

It is interesting when seeing several folks said "yes" and the latest one misunderstood the meaning!
The sentence with all accent marks,"Có thực mới vực được đạo." mentions one of basic needs in Maslow's hierarchy of needs: FOOD.
The term, "thực" means eating and "đạo" means working. The whole sentence simply means,"One must have food (to eat) first in order to be able to work."
Genarally, if the context is simple, Vietnamese people can guess the meaning easily in the absence of accent marks. If the context is complex, misunderstanding can occur.

Very strange how everybody says yes, when i have seen questions on this forum for a translation and people haven't used accent marks no one is able to answer and they ask for accent marks. Maybe what you wrote {i cant write Vietnamese} is very simple, but i am sure when the accents are not used it causes problems. |
