I was going to get the Lonely planet book then I looked on Amazon and pretty much 90% of the reviews said that the rough guide was much much better. The quality of the material is much more current and relevant. I've received my rough guide book and I'm impressed with it so far. Its better laid out and easier to use. Have a look on Amazon and read the reviews. Its £10.58. Also read the Lonely planet book review.
Good luck, I go in 9 days :)

The Lonely Planet is very good (previous answers) but i would always recommend the "The Rough Guide" . The Rough Guide is less pretentious and put's you in the driving seat , it calls a spade a spade which is what you need in SE Asia .
