its the Autumn festival , last 1-2 days, groups of costumed revelers practice all week playing drums,, dressing up in a dragon like costume called "mu lan" others dress up like "the monkey man"[ "khi"] and "mr earth" [ ong dat/ong dia] they go dancing and play fighting and spiting fire around from house to house business to business, often in hand pulled ox carts .children of all ages follow the groups and watch as mu la climbs to get envelopes of money people hang on tree limbs and balconies for the fire breathing dragon to get. often the groups are sponsored by temples and churches.. kids eat candy all day and like tet a lot of gambling and card playing goes on

Tet Trung Thu, literally "Mid-Autumn Festival" is a Vietnamese national holiday dedicated to children but actually observed by everybody. In many parts of Vietnam, especially in the Northern and Central regions, children would travel around their towns or villages in groups, visiting each household and business, performing "lion dances" (also known as "dragon dances") and receive treats or money as rewards...sort of like Halloween Tricks or Treats in the US. (In the South of VN and overseas Vietnamese communities, this dance is normally performed during Tet Nguyen Dan, the Lunar New Year's Holiday.) During the Mid-Autumn Festival, families would exchange sweets called "moon cakes" and eat them for desserts while supposedly enjoying the moon light. This Holiday takes place on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month which usually falls in Septemberin the Julian (Western) calendar.
