Most of the games are mentioned by others, addition game played around New Year's is "Bau, Cua, Ca, Cop": 4 figures (Lagenaria vulgaris, Crap, Fish, Tiger) carved on the 2 dices, those pictures also on a big game card. Players put betting money on the figures, the HOUSE wil sake the dices (covered in a plate and bowl), once time is up, no hands on the game card, the HOUSE open the bowl, figures shown on top is the one that win.

ban co tuong[chineses chess] is played on the street everywhere. so is soccer/ football/ da ban.. in every field or open lot . dont miss an opportunity to watch if you see a game going on , the viet namese are extreamly skillfull at all levels..there is a board game very much like "parchesi" they play w/ a board ,dice and chess horses...dont know the name..but i know they INSIST you role the dice into a small bowl!! cards are played by men and woman more often the woman use tiny colorfull cards w, chinese characters on them .. [many of the same chineses characters that appear on the chess pieces i believe] the game is much like rummy or gin rummy. |
