Getting travel visa to vietnam?

this question is specific to u.s. citizens. has anyone ever gotten a travel visa to vietnam? i read the requirements and they ask for my ORIGINAL passport to be sent to the vietnamese embassy in wash. d.c. mailing my passport to d.c. makes me a little nervous. is this really the procedure? it seems a very unsafe way of doing things.

My travel agent usually take care of the VISA for me. I live in San Jose so we have a Vietnam Consulate in San Francisco that processes the visa. But yeah, they will require original passport because the VISA will be attached to the passport. Eventually, the passport has to be mailed to one of the Vietnam Consulate somewhere to get the Visa.

That is the procedure. My mother sent her passport to the embassy in DC 3 times to get tourist visas - never had a problem. You use a service like DHL, registered mail, etc.

You have a choice - you can submit the passport, completed forms and the money order to pay for processing, or you pay someone else to do it for you, and you pay for that service. It isn't difficult. My 80 year old mother could do it three times. You can probably figure it out.

If you try to go WITHOUT having the visa in your passport before leaving - you are looking for problems - right from the minute to try and get a boarding pass at the airport. Pickup at the airport has lots of hoops, not easy, and not worth the hassle.

you can choose another way to obtain Vietnam visa,
no need to send passport to embassy.
you can pick Vietnam visa directly in Vietnam airport (Hanoi, Hochiminh, Danang airport) on arrival to Vietnam with visa approval letter. with that approval letter you will print it to 2 pages: 1pages for boarding airplane, 1page show Vietnam immigration checking and stamp visa on your passport. all procedure take in airport only some minutes.
you can visite this website : http://www.vietnamvisaservice.com
all price for all kind of.
wish you have a nice trip to Vietnam

No Visa in Vietnam and people ASEAN ,

Have a look at http://www.fascinating-travel-destinations.com/travel-visa.html about getting your Vietnam visa. Details for all visas are here. You will be required to send the original passport. They will put your visa in your passport.Make sure you send it via Fedex or similar with a tracking system. It is expensive but worth it.And do it well in advance!

Also get a visa valid for a few days more than you are staying if you can.............just saves hassles if there are any problems that arise delaying your departure. We got Vietnam visas recently( in Sydney) and the consulate advised this.

This is not uncommon. If you don't live near a consulate, mailing is essentially the only way to get your visa. If you're worried, you can use a visa agency or just send your passport FedEx with tracking or something.
