Dollars are accepted most everywhere, although it's good to have both Dong and dollars with you. Some jewelry shops often offer the best exchange rate, and the airport isn't too bad for exchanging enough currency to get you by, banks and currency exchangers will be comparable, avoid changing at hotels as the rates will usually be much worse. Just remember to convert any dong back to dollars or sterling before you leave Vietnam, the Dong is still considered a soft currency and will be next to impossible to exchange outside of Vietnam. Have fun. |

I used an ATM card for the last 4 years. I was based in Ha Noi and traveled extensively. It is good to have some cash. I haven't had a traveler's check in ages! |

Hi 1
The best palce to change money at the gold shop or valuable shop as well, the exchange rate depending on market, not fixe price. Now the exchange rate is 15,8000vnd/1$
You should use ATM card, you can take money whenever if you want, more safety and better for you
When you coem to Hanoi, you can do some tours like : Halong Bay, perfume pagoda, hoalu-tamcoc, sapa - bacha market..... the most beautiful in Hanoi.

Travellers cheques are expensive. I would take cash and an ATM card. Saigon has HSBC, and they won't charge you to withdraw money if you are one of their premier customers. There are money changers everywhere, walking the streets and in kiosks.....but the Dollar is the king out there, everyone takes it. |

Take dollars in cash and cheques. the USD is like a second currency here so exchange rates are good. Sterling is little used and rates are bad.The Bureau de Changes are best. Only exchange a little money at first so you can shop around for the best rate. |
