Well, I'd call it Ho Chi Minh because Saigon is it's American occupation name, and since we lost it's best to do it their way (no joke, I got crap from some people there for calling it Saigon).
Aside from the above advice, there is a hotel there called Bee Saigon. It's in a good location and they'll pick you up at the airport. They speak English well. The rooms are great for the price.
Also, book stuff from there. Don't book tours or anything online or with random travel agencies. Truth is, they are all in it together. They cooperate and have all the same prices (so there is no price competition really). The benefit of doing it out of the hotel is that there is a bunch of you (foreigners) and you have to come back to that hotel because you are staying there so they are less likely to dissapoint you.
The best tour was the veit con holes. You can go out to a forrest and see the tunnels, you can even fire guns at the end. It's pretty cool. You can buy a clip of bullets and shoot any weapon you choose. The tunnels are amazing too.
The other tours are basically temples and historic buildings. Normally I get bored by these type of tours but they are paced well and keep on moving accoredingly.
That's really all there is to do. The tunnel are the most amazing thing.
Other than that, get a guide book and check out restaraunts you are interested in. Four days is a perfect amount of time, any longer and you'll be bored.
Tip your tour guide at the end. A dollar is well appreciated. Usually they are war vets who translated for the US troops-they got some pretty interesting stories if you ask them. If you are American they will favor you a lot in that area, but not up north I felt (i went to Hanoi too).
Also, be aware of scammers. Especially children. I was followed by a kid for maybe an hour! It was crazy how persistent he was. They try you until you break. Just don't break because they'll tell their friends and you will have people waiting outside your hotel following you all day.
Good luck and enjoy your trip!

I am guessing your'e Aussie cuz if you are Brit or American you'll mostly be sleeping off the jet lag lol.
Catch a bus to Vung Tau and lay on the beach for three days. Go to Tommy's Bar (run by another Aussie named Belly, he'll recomend a hotel).
Return to Saigon on the morning of your last day and do your shopping at Cho Ben Thanh (The BIG market)

I was in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)for Christmas last year we stayed at The Majestic ,where everything is nearby and the bonus is we got a room facing the Saigon River.Rex hotel is not to bad too its in the middle of the beautiful chaos of central Saigon. We book a day trip to Chu Chi tunnel from our hotel at a reasonable price and that includes a nice chauffeur driven car and a friendly guide, they also took us to the cathedral, central post office, china town, temple and The presidential palace. We also took a hovercraft to the coastline ,but I dont fancy either the beach or the people ,you will see dead shellfish along the shores for about 3 kilometres,we went there . If you want something raw and backpackish" Pham Ngu Lao is the area ,where all the globetrekkers hangs out and there are few travel agents there.Ive given away my lonely planet book, but I think its a travel bible that I will hold with me everytime I go on holiday.

saigon is covered in hotels and tour booking desks. dont book anything until you get there...it is much cheaper and very easy to do once in saigon. the cheap hotels are very clean and tidy, and most come with breakfast. everyone is very helpful and most speak english. however the sellers can be pushy.
be sure to check out the cu chi tunnels and mekong delta.
