HELP!!! HW! U.S. involvement in Vietnam after 1961?
How did the war affect domestic programs between 1964-1973, and how did the war change America politically and socially during that time?
It destroyed America's traditional view of its self narrative in terms of the frontier myth. The myth is a story involving “civilized” white males leaving their homes in civilization for the wilderness. They lose the negative aspects of civilization and begin to adapt to life in a more natural state, while killing the native savages and generally “advancing civilization”. This myth was created during America’s history of expansion from its beginnings in New England, and before the Vietnam War, was most strongly supported by American Western films. Such a myth is important in expressing the dominant ideology of the state and giving citizens a constant narrative that gives them context for perceiving past, present and future events. Americans expected the Vietnam War to conform to this narrative and viewed the war in that context. When the war did not match the story there was disillusionment with the traditional myth and films explored new and different ideas. Looking back on their Vietnam experience, Americans universally regarded it as a disaster, including both those for and against the war.

If you are doing this for homework, I wouldn't recommend Wikipedia. It's not always a reliable source and many teachers do not approve of you using it. Instead, the book Vietnam for Dummies is quite good and reasonably accurate! To answer your question properly would take hours. This is such a broad topic--I don't envy you if you're being asked to know all this for class!

There is a book that will be published shortly if not already which will explain Vietnamsup and downs during many occupations including the American war as the Vietnamese call it.
I had the pleasure of meeting the author whilst in Vietnam this year and was sent a copy of the book to read. I can assure you he did not hold back on the sadness the country has suffered.
The saddest part of all is that the gentleman is 83yrs old and suffering with alzeimer's, and all he wants is to die in his own country but because of his involvement with the Americans he has been looked upon by the government as trouble. Communism is still being run in the country no matter what anyone says, corruption is all around it
