water,no problem . But I heard the food are rather unclean, esp. the meat as they use preservetive to tender them ,which are not safe if you take in large quantity. My i week in Hanoi saw many food stalls around ,some at the road side, with no proper clean water to clean their bowls. |

I lived now in Vietnam for more than 3 years now and i can say with complete confidence that you dont have to worry about the medical capabilities here. Yes there are private practices and even Veterinarians specializing in pets of foreigners. As far as the cleanliness of the food no it is not the cleanest place but since i have been living here i have not been ill but 3 days and never sever usually just a strong migraine. There are many international schools here for your child and the standards of teaching from what i understand is higher than a good majority of the private schoold back in the states.
Life in Hanoi can be very chaotic at first, but once you get the hang of how it is about 2 weeks all the chaos will eventually make sense and there is an order to the chaos here.
Cost of living depends on how you want to live. When i first came here i was spending about 300 USD a month living in a hotel room including cleaner and utilities and that also includes my food for the month, though that is only 1 person. If you are looking at more of an apartment type setup which i would recommend you can get a really nice apartment here furnished at about 350-500USD a month plus about another 70 USD for utilities.
Water though it is not recommended by most to use the faucet water to brush your teeth i do it honestly because i am to lazy to get a bottle of water into the bathroom. You can buy 5 gallons of purified water for less than 2.25USD here in Hanoi. |

I live in Ha Noi now - have been for 4 years. Great food. Drink bottled water, but brush my teeth with tap water. Go to a local clinic for routine medical and dental, but would fly to Bangkok for major medical. Decent intl schools. LIfe is relatively cheap. Hanoi is very safe, much safer than most places I have lived, and I have been to a lot of places. I like it! |

Vietnam is not like you think mate. If you have money, you can have all services. Hospital with foreigner doctors etc..food is great, and cost of living is cheap. Just don't drink water on the streets. You can drink beer, coke....or bottle water. |

Food is the probably the worse quality. Some water bottle companies get their water close to cemeteries. I've never been to Hanoi, but why not check out Saigon? |
