Listening to all the above answers gave me stomach cramps.
Ok, here's the real deal from someone who has been LIVING in Vietnam for 16 years, has been MARRIED for 12 years to a Hanoian lady and who has worked in BOTH north and south.

Hanoians, for the most part, prefer to live low-key. If they're rich you won't know it (with few exceptions for the newly rich). Hanoian ladies themselves as educated, elegant, refined.

Saigonese ladies, on the other hand are much more business oriented. They are equally educated, but more inclined to make a buck. They are VERY into "Bling" and Louis Vuitton bags sell well here.

Every country on the planet has these differences. In US terms... Hanoi would be Boston or Washington DC and Saigon would be LA.

As for "problems with ladies"... the list is endless. Having been married for 12 years, most of it is a clash of culture. My wife is Hanoian so she believes in SAVING every dong. On the other hand, her cousin lives in the Saigon, drives a new S550 Benz and wears a diamond big enough to blind incoming airplanes.

I guess the basic rules are thus:
1. You will not ever win an argument, ever.
2. If you accidentally win an argument, you will still lose in the end.
3. Just give her all the money and let her do as she will...because she's gonna do it anyway sooner or later. Might as well give it now and avoid a lifetime of aggravation.
4. Remember, she is never wrong. Ever.

Women are the same all over the world. Men can never figure them out so stop trying. Its less painful that way.

Vietnamese ladies are like ladies all over the world, some are beautiful and some are not.

HCM ladies are more out going, fun loving, out spoken..... if you are in VN for a holiday and want to have fun then look for a lady in HCM city for a companian.

Hanoi ladies tend to be more polite, very formal and classy...normally pretty shy with the opposite sex....I find going out with a Hanoi lady pretty stressful because I have to act like a gentleman all the time .

It's so hard to tell anymore since after the fall of Saigon, lot of North Vietnamese have moved to South. If you go further south to more country side than you can tell the diff., but in HCM city itsefl.....not so much because most of them have fleed the country in one way or the other....
South Vietnames ladies are more honest, speak from their heart and mind. North Vietnamese ladies are more formally speaking...more classy....more pretend.....They are both beautiful in their own way. Depending on how and where you meet them....that tell a lot about them....good luck to you.

It is exactly the same idea of The one answered. Hanoi people talk classy and pretend try to please people for the first sight the meet. but after that you can see they will change to their true face, SaiGon people is honest talk traight for word and talk by their mind what they think they talk, but anywhere in the world will have some good and bad people, so Tan you please to talk like that, not all SaiGon people cheat on their husband. And HaNoi Don't???????

im vietnamese so i can tell you the difference between hanoi ladies and ho chi minh ladies than anyone who can.
in general, ha noi ladies are more beatiful than ho chi minh ladies but the latter are more generous than the former, Second, hanoi ladies are constant,faithful but hcm ladies often cheat on their husbands. Finally, hanoi ladies always want to concentrate on their work but hcm ladies are interested in making up. That's all. Hope that you can chose exactly vietnamese girl you like.
