Hanoi : safe, cheap, nice location to stay?

If someone can provide me with 4-5 names (with phone number, email, and address) for the hotels that are cheap, safe, decent, and close to action (I guess close to opera house). Price I am looking for is less than 20$ a day.

Thank you for the quick help.

You will be hard pressed to find a place that is Safe, Cheap, close to the action and the opera house for less than $30 dollars per day.

Try one of the backpacker guides to vietnam for suggestions.

I recommend the Golden Sun Hotel which is just around the corner from Lake Hoan Kiem in the Old Quarter. It is a good walk to the Opera house, but is nearer the action than the Opera house. It is a 3 star so not luxurious but very nice and lovely people.

You can find plenty of really good options through Hostelworld. We booked all our accommodation through them. They range from cheap to mid range hotels. Most hotels also include breakfast.

I agree with Gail. We stayed at Golden Sun in April this year and it was great. A couple of hundred metres from the lake (if that) and walking distance to lots of stuff. The staff are lovely, too. It is maybe a 3 star hotel. Check here: http://www.goldensun-hotel.com/
