Have you ever stayed in Hanoi Youth Hotel? Is it good hotel? |
I am going to come to Hanoi. On checking hotel in tripadvisor.com, I found Hanoi Youth Hotel and a Youth Hostel nearby the Hoan Kiem lake, in the Hanoi Old Quarter. The price is about 15 USD for a single room. I intend to come in this June. If you ever been here, please give me advice. |

No I haven't stayed there. We have been to Hanoi quite a few time too. We also will be there next month; but we are staying at the Golden Sun. Cheers. |

Hi,
I haven't stayed at either hotel. These are probably regular tourist hotels that have added the word "hostel" for advertising purposes.
I haven't been to Hanoi in over a year, but $15 might be a bit pricey.
My advice:
1. If you haven't stayed at a tourist hotel don't make and pay for a reservation in advance unless you've received a good recommendation from a trusted source.
2. Try not to arrive in the evening. Give yourself time to find a hotel.
3. Don't rely on touts at the airport. Don't let a tout or taxi driver tell you the hotel you want to go to is closed.
4. Have the name of the hotel and address written on a piece of paper. If possible get a picture of the hotel off the internet. Be sure your driver takes you to the correct address.
5. When you get to the "right" address, before you check in: Inspect the room they want to give you. Is the shower water hot, does the air conditioning work, does the door lock, will street noise bother you, etc? If you don't like the room, move on to another hotel. That's why you should arrive with daylight to spare.
6. If you like the room, bargain for a lower price. It's part of the culture.
7. Most staff members are helpful with recommendations, etc. But there are no guarantees. They might even help you get a room in the next stop you make. But still check it out when you get there.
8. Don't forget your passport when you leave!
Good Luck,
Dwight Z.
