Ho Chi Minh City or Bangkok? |
I want to go shopping at the markets for counterfeit clothing, watches, shoes etc. but don't know which city is better for this to stop over in, Ho chi Minh City or Bangkok?
1. Do both cities sell these? And where?
2. Which city has more variety of ccounterfeit brands?
3. Is the quality of counterfeit goods the same in both cities?
The best answer will be chosen based on whoever answers these 3 questions in most detail.

1. Yes, they both sell them. In fact, you can get them through out Asia if you look in the right places.
In Bangkok, everywhere. Sukhumvit Road is always good, as is Patpong's night market.
In HCMC, most of the street shops. Just avoid the big retail malls like Diamond Plaza or Parkson as they have the real thing.

3. The quality is the same as all of this stuff comes from CHINA. Yes, CHINA...the king off knock offs.
Very little is actually made in Thailand or Vietnam, maybe less than 0.5% It all comes from southern China. |

Vietnamese are masters of knock offs. I've bought many different styles of clothes, DVD's etc over there. |

Both in their markets. There are more markets in HCMC than Bangkok, and no political unrest at all in Vietnam. Bangkok markets are catering more so for tourists so prices are higher than HCMC, where most markets are for locals with no inflated prices.

Definitely HCMC, Vietnam.
3. Is the quality of counterfeit goods the same in both cities?
Most fake brand name goods in Bangkok are made in China. In Vietnam, most are made in Vietnam. The quality of goods in Vietnam is very high and their ability to replicate is unsurpassed. Good example is that with the life time warranty on Zippo lighters, you can buy a Vietnamese made replica Zippo, and if it fails, very few are ever detected by Zippo agents in western countries when they replace them under warranty.
Another I can give is that a mate of mine took an expensive Italian made suit to a tailor in Vietnam. The tailor copied it making three more from scratch, stitched in the fake trade label and the guy who had them made is a regular name brand suit wearer said he could not pick the difference.
And to add.... to holiday or visit in Vietnam is by far cheaper than Thailand as well as so much safer.
