Get a cheap flight ticket if you don't want to spend much money. Another choice is to book a tour from a tourist company in Vietnam (usually a tour in 5-6 days will only cost $300 to fly, visit and go back).

easiest and cheapest way as you dont have much time, is to fly. www.airasia.com is best, either book a long time in advance if you know the date of departure which is the cheapest, or a week or two in advance mabe more expensive depending on their bookings. air asia fly both from HCM CITY and Hanoi, count on about $100, i flew from Hanoi to Bangkok in april and it cost me $80,1 month advance booking.

Cheapest and easiest is flying.
Check out Airasia.com and jetstar.com for cheap flights.
If you are flying out of Hanoi also check nokair.com
Have a great trip!

If you are traveling TO Vietnam from Thailand, fly there via THAI Airlines. They have super-saver specials if you book early enough.
Vietnam Airlines isn't as cheap as Thai, but the service is comparable.
You didn't mention what part of Vietnam you are going, Hanoi or HCMC. If traveling solo, stick with the major transportation companies and be mindful of flashing too much cash or jewelery.
