HI Mark,i am also English and live permanently in Vietnam and love it,so it can be done.Your visa easy, just go to a friendly travel agent within a few days of being here and they will do the necessary paperwork and you will get one for 6 months, then just keep re-newing it.Cant help you on health insurance as i haven't got any,i just pay my medical bills as i go,its very very cheap. You can set yourself up as an English teacher with no qualifications,i know 2 or 3 people who are doing it,the pay is rubbish though.
The question you need to ask yourself is do i need to work,as long as you have some income, pension savings etc you probably don't need to,you get 9% interest on your money from the bank, your money goes a lot farther here. The one bit of strong advice i will give you,is be very carefull who you trust, but if you can find a good vietnamese to help you,she or he will save you alot of money,i first lived in a hotel here for 6 months at 6$ per night, when i left i took the receptionist with me,i doubled her salary to $100 per month, and im happy to say ive doubled it twice since.Good luck to you,and if you need more spercific help just ask.

You can teach in Vietnam...you dint need a Teaching Degree in order to teach overseas....any degree should be sufficient, doesn't have to be job specific.

You will also need to apply for a Working Visa in order to work overseas....

You can also join certain Volunteer programs which allows you to travels overseas to work without paid, but you will need to find you own monies & accomdation.......
